Our Curling Event brought out the competitors! It was great to see so many people give this event a try! It was a new game for some… but clearly we tapped into some well-learned technique as well!

Hockey! This was a fun competition!
Residents were given 6 shots on net (4 Road Hockey Balls & 2 Pucks). It was a very close competition, so close we had to have a play-off round!
Congratulations to George, Henry & Nelly!

Before the Winter Games closed, we gathered together to see demonstrations of a few more events. Figure Skating, Snowboarding & Ski Jump are events planned for the larger Schlegel Village Winter Olympics which takes place in February and, while we didn’t run competition events of these at the Village, we still wanted everyone to get the full experience.

Figure Skating will be judged on Balance, Completion of Skills, and Creativity.
Snowboarding is also a Balance challenge and requires 2 minutes of rocking between the Parallel Bars (which we didn’t use for our demo).
Ski Jump requires Upper Body strength as competitors self-propel and the distance of their “jump” (coasting distance is measured).

Many thanks to our Team Members who stepped up and gave these events a try!

❄️🏅 Let the Games Begin at Aspen Lake! 🏅❄️

What an incredible day as we officially opened our Aspen Lake Winter Games with laughter, cheering, and lots of Olympic spirit!

From our hilarious “Training for the Olympics” skit, to a special visit from the Aspen Lake Alligator, to the Coach’s inspiring opening speech, the room was full of smiles, applause, and community pride. We carried the torch, lit the Olympic Cauldron, and took the oath to do our best.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this such a special celebration. The energy was amazing, and this is only the beginning!

đź’™ Glow Blue, Aspen Lake! đź’™

The Village is shining a little brighter this month as we “Light It Up Blue” for Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. Our blue lights are more than just a pretty glow—they’re a symbol of hope, understanding, and support for everyone living with dementia and for those who love them.

The Alzheimer Society’s Light It Up Blue campaign helps raise awareness, spark conversations, and support local dementia programs right in our communities. By lighting up blue, we’re standing together, breaking stigma, and showing that no one walks this journey alone.

So take a look down Main Street, snap a photo, and help us spread the word. We are also selling raffle tickets for a gift basket with proceeds going to our local Alzheimer’s Society. Together, we “Glow Blue” for awareness, compassion, and community.

We rang in the New Year in style!

Residents enjoyed a fabulous New Year’s celebration filled with tunes by Gary MacDonald that had everyone tapping their toes and strolling down memory lane. With bubbly drinks in hand, classic cheese & crackers to snack on, and lots of laughter shared with friends and family, the atmosphere was nothing short of festive.

What a wonderful way to start the year — great music, great company, and starting the year with some sparkle and Auld Lang Syne at Aspen Lake!
