Today is my birthday! And after a busy couple of days celebrating, I’ve been reflecting on how we spend these special days. This year I’ve been gifted all sorts of time and energy from those who love me the most, and the best. Those who see me and know me and celebrate me.
This has been spectacular week, filled with of surprises (some by people who had no idea it was my birthday week!).
And I’m just feeling so very grateful for this little life I live. ♥️
And for YOU. Thank you for being a part of it. Because of you, I get to do what I really love. I get to spend much of my time with sweet little babies and tender new parents.
I get to use my skills and my talent (and my love) in helping ease some of the bumpiness of the transitions in those early days, weeks, and months.
I’m looking forward to this next spin around the sun, and seeing what’s in store!

Is your baby fussy? Having a hard time with feeding or digestion?

You don’t have to just struggle through. Reach out and let’s work together to help your baby feel, feed, and sleep better.

That’s one happy (and well rested mama) holding her sweet baby. ♥️

Posted • When you walk into my office there are actually 3 “patients” that I’ll be working with.

1. You.
2. Your baby
3. The dyad

This is considered a “triad view” and it acknowledges that effective lactation care must consider all three —the baby’s ability to feed effectively, the mothers capacity to produce and deliver milk, and how the two are functioning together as a unit.

The dyad is important especially in a trauma informed and holistic model of care—which I use—because it holds the relational, emotional, and physiological context in which feeding and attachment are occurring. It’s important to understand what is happening but also how, why, and in what relational context these things are unfolding.

This focus allows me to support —

🌱The healing of relational pathways not just feeding mechanics

🪷Safe, co-regulating interactions rather than just optimizing technique

🔅The relational field—not just the milk supply or the latch—which is embodied, intimate, and reciprocal

The dyad is where disregulation and disconnection can show up, and where healing and bonding can occur 💜.

What does an IBCLC do while on holidays, you might ask?
Why, spend hours and hours gathering the information of the requirements they’ve completed to recertify, of course!

Did you know that IBCLCs are required to recertify every five years? It’s quite the process, and needs to be done either by exam or proof of specific, approved continuing education hours - as well as clinical hours.

I’ve been an IBCLC since 2010 (certifying is always initially by exam, after meeting the requirements to sit the exam).

This is my third time recertifying…I’ve done it twice now with continuing education hours and once by sitting the exam again.
Both are challenging in their own ways, time consuming, and expensive! But worth it, to hold the gold standard in lactation credentials.

And honestly? What I’ve learned AFTER initially becoming board certified is most valuable to my practice, and for the families I serve. I’m a lifelong learner, and there’s just so much to learn more about. I’m excited to see what’s next in my continued education! Lactation education is definitely something that is evolving and ever-changing, as there is more and more research being done all the time (so much of it in our own province!).

🥂 Here’s to the next five years of growth, learning, and supporting families as ethically, openly, and compassionately and evidence-based as possible.

Time for some holidays! I’m away until August 18th. I’ll be checking my email sporadically….but it may a few days before you hear back from me. It’s been an intense and amazing few months, and my brain needs a rest so I can focus and give it my all again in a couple of weeks.
See you soon!

Love getting messages like this! 😍

This little one was uncomfortable, spitting up many times each day out his nose, and had a very tight, uncomfortable latch.

One CST treatment and this is the message I received later that day from his mom (with permission to share).

Have I mentioned how much I love this work? 🥰

Weaning to formula
Bottle refusal
Post tongue and lip tie release oral habilitation x 2
Weaning from ni**le shield
Low milk supply
Helping a mom get a comfortable latch (for the first time ever!)
Reflux relief/better sleep
So many diaper explosions! 💩 It’s a weird party trick I have. 😂

Every one of these babies has benefitted from my unique blend of lactation knowledge, oral habilitation, and craniosacral therapy treatment, in one appointment that combines all three modalities.
Avoiding/preventing appointment fatigue is important when you’re already overwhelmed. I’ve got you! (and when I don’t, I have an amazing team of colleagues to recommend!)
