🤕Feeling stiff and sore after every workout?

😓Tired, fatigued, nagging pain, decreased performance?

☝️These are all symptoms of overtraining

📈While it’s important to train hard enough to stimulate adaptations

🏋️‍♂️There needs to be a balance between your training stress and your ability to recover form it

🤔You may have seen many products that claim to help with these symptoms

🥶From ice baths and saunas to massage guns and red light devices, all of these modalities claim to help the recovery process in some way

🥱The reality is that many of these modalities only provide temporary relief from symptoms, and many of the claims of improving recovery are overblown or straight up inaccurate

😃Most of the things that actually help with recovery cost little to no money, and are more effective than many of the recovery modalities on the market, such as;

🍔Eating enough food and protein to help repair tissue

😴Getting enough sleep to help repair tissue

🏋️‍♂️Managing training loads - changing your weights, sets and reps to help manage soreness and fatigue

🤸‍♀️General movement and cardiovascular activity - helps to promote blood flow to tissues that need repair

👍Once you got the basics covered, you probably won’t feel the need to spend hundreds of dollars on recovery tools

☝️”We are in the game of behaviour change” -Lorimer Moseley

I love this quote because it highlights the most important aspect when working with people

That changing behaviours, especially health promoting behaviours, should be the focus when working with people

Many of my clients have had negative experiences with exercise because they were pushed too hard, too fast and too soon

This can lead to fatigue, burnout and potential pain and injury

The most important part of starting an exercise program is showing up and doing it, the change of behaviour and the formation of a new habit is the most important piece for long term success

Anything more than what you are already doing right now is a great place to start

And once you’ve formed the habit, make it more challenging, gradually, over time

☝️The biggest issue I see with people on chronic pain is….

🤸‍♀️They are often not doing nearly enough physical activity

👇This isn’t meant to shame anyone, more so to point out a blind spot that many practitioners deal with when working with these patients

❌Often times treatments and rehab exercises are directed to a certain area that is the “problem” and the interventions are meant to “fix” it

✅ With Chronic pain and its many influences we need to think more globally instead of locally in order to get the changes we are seeking

📈While I have no problem with including some of these low level exercises, especially in the beginning stages of rehab, there should be a plan to gradually increase overall physical activity levels over time

🚴‍♂️This can look like - increasing your overall step count, gentle activities like walking, biking or swimming or participating in a recreational activity you enjoy doing in a gradual fashion

👊 Don’t miss the person for the problem

😖 Chronic pain can be difficult to manage

With so much information and so many contributing factors, it can be hard to figure out what to do and where to start

While it’s important to know about these factors, some may be more relevant to your situation than others

Here in this post are some of things I notice that come up regularly for many people living with chronic pain

It’s important to know that not all of these factors need to be addressed at one time, and some of them may not need to be addressed at all

This post doesn’t cover everything, but it may give you a few ideas to think about if you are currently trying to navigate through your chronic pain

If you have questions or want to learn more, feel free to send me a message 📩

🤬Feeling frustrated with your OA

😢It’s a very common feeling to have especially with so much conflicting information when it comes to what causes OA and how to manage it

🤔What was once thought to be a result from wear and tear, we now understand OA as a complex process where a joint changes over time due to an inability to properly repair joint surfaces

😀The good news is that there are many ways that you can help manage your symptoms and improve joint function over time

🗣️Stay tuned for more info on how you can implement exercise with OA

😣I know many people struggle with this

👀I see it all the time

🧐People desperately searching for the specific problem and the specific solution that will make it go away

☝️With all the promises of quick fix solutions on social media it isn’t hard to see why

🪄Unfortunately human beings are very complex and so is pain, if there was a magic solution there would not a chronic pain epidemic

🙅If you are desperately searching for a single solution for your pain, I’m here to tell you that it likely does not exist

🫵Instead of desperately searching for the answer, zoom out and look at your whole life and all the factors that may influence your pain and ask yourself “how can I make some improvements”

☝️This is usually when people start to make actual progress on their pain journey

🤔Questions about this, feel free to send me a message
