What “take with food” actually means 🍽️

This instruction can mean different things depending on the medication and it’s not always as straightforward as it sounds. In many cases, “with food” means taking your medication with a meal or a small snack to help reduce stomach upset. For some medications, food also helps your body absorb the medication properly.

On the flip side, taking certain medications on an empty stomach can lead to nausea or make them less effective. Because the meaning of “with food” can vary, it’s always worth checking in with your pharmacist so you know what works best for that specific medication.

When in doubt, ask, your pharmacist is always happy to explain.

Care that meets you where you are 🤍

We’re big fans of .ca and for good reason. They connect you with licensed Canadian doctors and nurse practitioners online for non-emergency concerns, without long wait times or crowded waiting rooms.

It’s thoughtful, accessible care designed to remove barriers, especially for people who may have difficulty accessing in-person medical services. All you need is a device and an internet connection, and you can speak to a provider when it works for you.

We love working with services that genuinely care about making healthcare more equitable, human, and easy to access. So grateful to have QDoc as a resource in our community 💙
