We’re feeling honoured this week 💜
A therapist with our team, Olivia Barker, was featured today in a CTV news article exploring the rise of “old school hobbies” — things like crafting, reading physical books, and gardening — and their connection to mental health. With mental health week around the corner, this is a great reminder of how making space for this is a way we can care for ourselves.
“I’m finding that more and more people are recognizing the benefits of reclaiming our time and seeing hobbies as kind of like a resistance...engaging in kind of a predictable, repetitive way really helps to reduce stress and anxiety.”
In a world that moves fast and lives online, there’s something powerful about slowing down and working with your hands. We often talk with clients about finding grounding practices that feel meaningful and sustainable — and sometimes, the most effective tools aren’t new at all, they’re the ones people have been using for generations.
You don’t need anything fancy to take care of your mental health. Start small and simple. Pick up a pen...a recipe...a puzzle...a plant - these are lovely places to start. 🌱
