Just a bunch of local optometrists and ophthalmologists hanging out at a local brewery 🍷🍺

Last night’s 2026 Annual Wine & Cheese with the Manitoba Association of Optometrists (thanx .eyesmrsmom and Kalyn) was a nice evening stepping away from clinic life and connecting in a relaxed space — strengthening the relationship between our professions while just genuinely enjoying each other’s company.

This is not a business post or an optometry post- this is a real life mama post.

Because when the clinic lights go off and the other hats come off, the most important role is waiting for me at home.

Every night, I hold my daughter in front of the mirror and together we speak words of power, love, and self-worth. We started these affirmations one year ago when she could barely say the words and now that she’s a little older, her confidence shines through in how she says them — playful, strong, and full of personality!

She feels them. She believes them. And one day they won’t just be words……they’ll be who she is 🥹

These affirmations are seeds I plant so the world never gets to define her before she defines herself.

No more sleep sacks. We’re officially in the Disney princess era 👑 Dresses all day and somehow still on at night 😂

A proud, obsessed mama 💓

Maggie joins us as our new Receptionist & Pre-Testing Technician and brings over 3 years of experience in the optometry world from Chicago. She recently moved to Winnipeg with her family, and we’re so excited she has joined our team.

You’ll see Maggie inviting you in with her warm smile and helping guide your visit from start to finish.

She also successfully completed her first dry eye treatment today……what a natural!

We also want to wish her a very happy first birthday in Canada 🇨🇦🎉!

A big thank you to the WEI team and Hoffmann-La Roche for hosting such a valuable evening for us MB optometrists on the co-management of retinal disease. Dr. Andre Jastrzebski, Dr. Josh Manusow, and Dr. Deepa Yoganathan shared excellent insights on referral timing, new treatment options for AMD, DME, and RVO, and the importance of patient education.

Always so grateful for the close collab between our optometry and ophthalmology colleagues here in Manitoba — a wonderful evening of learning, great food and drinks, and even better company, of course 😉👌!

This weekend was more than just a workshop—it was truly a healing experience. There were moments I got goosebumps hearing the life-changing patient stories shared by Dr. Angela Peddle and Dr. Vi Tu Banh. The power of optometry to heal and transform lives left me in awe. What a privilege it is to be in this profession 🙏🏽.

Every primary care optometrist needs to take this type of course. Whether it’s amblyopia, strabismus, concussions, or TBIs, the tools we gain here can change lives—sometimes with something as small as a microprism or a tint. Patients who’ve been everywhere else and found no relief may finally get answers through vision care.

This was the 15th time this course has been taught in just 3 years, and I can see why—it’s inspirational, empowering, and absolutely essential. I’d take it again in a heartbeat and recommend it to every colleague!

We even started the morning with laughing yoga in the parking lot (the perfect energy boost!) and ended on the sweetest note—Dr. Peddle had shared a Winnie-the-Pooh quote during her lecture, only to realize Pooh was actually from Winnipeg! 🐻 I was able to gift her the children’s book I read to my own kids, and before flying back to Ontario, she even had the chance to visit the Winnie-the-Pooh Museum. Such a special full-circle moment.

Grateful to Dr. Peddle and Dr. Banh for bringing this transformational course to Winnipeg, and to Dr. Matt Anderson for hosting us. Grateful for the recharge and eager to put these tools into action with my patients!
