Today’s rehab exercise?

Toe touches.

They may look simple, but there is plenty happening here.
This movement challenges balance, coordination, and control while helping the body relearn how to move smoothly through everyday tasks like bending down or reaching toward the floor.

If this is too easy for you, increase your speed, tap higher objects, and/or add simultaneous upper body challenge - like head turns or arm raises. We can help you customize your home exercise plan just for you and your unique goals:

"Put the cheese on the bread." Now that's our type of cooking class!

But seriously, at our staff party this month, we also learned more advanced things, like supreming an orange and, yes, ZESTING.

The best part? Probably the laughs... or the cake... or maybe being taken care of by our lovely instructors... and not having to do any kitchen CLEANING.

Will we make any of the recipes we learned at home? Some of us have already tried (with sub-par results, ah well).

Big thanks to The Food Studio for hosting a chill staff soiree for us! We'd totally recommend them - such a neat Winnipeg food experience.

If you have limited hip mobility, these exercises are for you. 🦵

Stiff or restricted hips can affect how you walk, squat, sit, and even how your lower back feels. When the hips do not move well, other areas often compensate.
These movements use Controlled Articular Rotation (CARs) to help improve joint range, coordination, and overall movement quality. Over time, better hip mobility can mean smoother movement and less unnecessary strain.

Focus on slow, intentional motion and stay within a comfortable range.

👉 Save this one and share it to someone who needs more hip movement.

Worrying about things that are actually… totally normal?

During injury recovery, it’s common to feel tightness, soreness, or fluctuations in how your body feels day to day. That doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong. Rehab isn’t linear. Muscles adapt, tissues respond to load, and some discomfort after movement can be a normal part of getting stronger.

Rest isn’t falling behind. It’s a key part of recovery. And yes, your body can adapt and heal at any age. It’s far more resilient than we give it credit for.

👉 Save this for the days you start overanalyzing symptoms. Your physio would absolutely approve.

Tight chest muscles and neck pain from poor posture? 👀

Here’s a simple way to open things up.

Spending long hours sitting or looking down can cause the chest muscles to shorten and pull the shoulders forward. Over time, this can lead to stiffness, neck tension, and upper back discomfort.

Shoulder rolls, wall chest stretches, banded rows, and standing band pull movements help counter that forward posture by:
✔ Opening the chest
✔ Activating the upper back muscles
✔ Encouraging better shoulder alignment
✔ Supporting more upright posture throughout the day

Small posture resets like these can make a big difference when done consistently.

👉 Save this post and try these exercises during your next break, or share it with someone who spends a lot of time at a desk.

Want more? We'll customize a chest, shoulder and neck program just for you.

You ever look back at a year and think, “Yep… I definitely didn’t do myself any favours there”?

This video is your reminder that a few small changes can make a big difference in how your body feels moving into 2026.

We’ve all been guilty of sitting too long, or doing too-much-too-soon of a new sport, or not prioritizing sleep. But the good news? The new year has a way of making us re-think our habits and choices.

Tip to carry into the year: Consistency is king! Doing the right thing consistently all year is better than a sudden dramatic change.

Guess the Diagnosis!

54-year-old female
New onset spinning dizziness
Symptoms started 2 weeks ago
Episodes last 10 to 20 seconds
Triggered by rolling in bed, looking up, or bending forward
No dizziness when sitting still
Feels slightly “off balance” after
No hearing loss, ringing, or pressure
No migraines and no recent illness
Worse first thing in the morning

What do you think is going on?

Answer

BPPV – Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo

BPPV happens when little crystals in your inner ear move into the wrong spot. When that happens, your balance gets thrown off, and you get those quick, intense “the room is spinning” moments, especially when you roll in bed or look up.
🕵️‍♀️ Two big clues it’s BPPV:
• The dizziness is triggered by certain head movements
• It comes on fast and stops just as quickly once you stay still

You usually won’t have hearing changes, headaches, or dizziness while resting, which helps rule out other issues.

The best part? BPPV is treatable. A few specific head and body movements, guided by our highly trained vestibular physiotherapists, can move those crystals back where they should be.

Welcome to our Henderson Highway location!

One of our welcoming features is our pretty "fireplace" at our entrance. Some may call it cheesy, but we call it perfect for these cold winter days.

Our friendly reception team is also a warm welcome when you arrive :)

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

You might not realize it, but you use the same movement as a deadlift almost every day. 🏋️‍♂️

Picking up a laundry basket, lifting your kids, carrying groceries, even grabbing something off the floor, it all starts with that same hip hinge.

Building good form now helps you feel stronger and more confident in everything you do.
💾 Save this video featuring our physiotherapist Karim Nweilati - and practice your form. Notice Karim is demonstrating with simple hand weights - no need for a gym membership or a barbell. You could also do this with heavy objects from around your house, such as heavy grocery bags with handles.

What is our team DOING in these videos?

Good question.

Last month we did intensive training to improve our ability to treat vestibular conditions and concussions. This video is us practicing our tests for reflexes that keep our eyes steady when our head is moving (our "vestibular-ocular reflex").

Most people know about the reflexes that make our knee straighten when it's hit with a reflex hammer at the doctor's. But our body has many other reflexes - and this particular one is important for physiotherapists to test when our client is feeling dizzy, losing their balance, or feeling icky after a concussion. If this reflex is not working well, it could cause these uncomfortable symptoms. And with our physiotherapists, we can work together to make these symptoms improve.
