Recovery isn’t just about healing your mind and body, it’s also about rebuilding your life, including your relationship with money. For many, managing finances after addiction can be a challenge. Sometimes, overspending sneaks in as a replacement habit, which can create new stress and risks.

Here are a few tips to help stay on track:
• Create a realistic budget that covers essentials and some fun, but keeps spending in check
• Track your expenses to spot patterns and avoid impulse buys
• Set financial goals, even small ones, to build motivation and focus
• Find healthy alternatives to replace spending urges - like exercise, hobbies, or connecting with support

Taking charge of your finances is a powerful step toward lasting recovery and stability.

Yes, you can! If you’re planning to bring your vehicle during your stay, here are a few things to keep in mind:

🅿️ Street parking requires a paid pass
🅿️ Tamarack has limited on-site parking during daytime hours

We recommend arranging your parking ahead of time to avoid any stress.

World Su***de Prevention Day

Today, we pause to recognize World Su***de Prevention Day. A time to raise awareness, break the silence, and stand together for hope and healing.

Every life matters. Every story matters. And every conversation can make a difference. 💛

This year’s theme, “Changing the Narrative”, reminds us that open, compassionate dialogue can save lives. By talking openly about mental health and su***de, we help reduce stigma, offer support, and let others know they are not alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you can:
📞 Call or text 988 – Su***de Crisis Helpline (24/7 in Canada)
💬 Visit 988lifeline.ca for online chat support
🏥 Crisis Response Centre – 817 Bannatyne Ave, Winnipeg (24/7 walk-in)
📞 Klinic Crisis Line – Call 204-786-8686 (24/7)
📞 Mobile Crisis Service – Call 204-940-1781 (24/7 in Winnipeg)

At Tamarack, keeping our space clean is part of daily life. After your first week, you’ll be assigned a weekly chore to help care for the shared areas of the house. This routine supports building structure and healthy habits that are important for recovery.

Small daily actions like this make a big difference on the journey to wellness.

In early recovery, it’s normal to feel:
* Unmotivated
* Emotionally numb
* Joyless

That’s not failure, it’s your brain healing.

Addiction impacts the brain’s dopamine and serotonin systems - the chemicals that regulate pleasure, mood, and motivation.

In recovery, your brain is learning to function without substances. That’s why even the smallest things like getting out of bed, feeling joy, or connecting with others, can feel incredibly hard.

But healing is happening, even when you can’t feel it yet.

It takes time.
It takes patience.
It takes compassion—for your brain, your body, and yourself.

If you’re feeling low, flat, or like “nothing feels good anymore”…
You’re not broken. You’re healing.

Today, we remember the lives lost to overdose and stand with families and communities affected worldwide. Overdose is preventable, and compassion—not stigma—is the key to saving lives.

International Overdose Awareness Day calls on all of us to speak openly, support evidence-based care, and advocate for harm reduction.

If you or someone you love is struggling, take the first step—we will walk the rest of the way with you.

Let’s get Growing Together! We’re looking forward to the inaugural planting of our new Growing Together Spring Garden at 60 Balmoral this Fall and we’d love it if you got involved in this uplifting new project.

You can be a part of creating this symbol of hope at TRC by dedicating one of the 100 flower bulbs to someone who has helped you grow or meant something special to you in recovery.

Dedications will be featured in a special display when the garden is launched at our supporters’ event in September and will also appear on a Growing Together Garden Wall on our website.

If you’d like to dedicate a bulb, simply email us at 50years@tamarackrecovery.org with a message in the following format.

“For [the first name of the person you’re making the dedication to] who [short sentence describing how they have helped you grow or what they have meant to you in recovery].”

Bulb dedications are free – no donation is required.
