The enamel of your tooth is naturally white but after being worn down, the dentin, which is a more yellow colour, shows through. Certain foods should be avoided as they stain the teeth yellow or they may also be acidic and can tear away the tooth's enamel. These include sugary drinks, candy, wine, coffee, and black tea. To prevent stained teeth, avoid these foods and follow good dental hygiene and habits. The most effective way to get rid of stained teeth is with professional dental whitening.

If your mouthwash or tooth whitening product is causing the problem, your dentist can recommend or prescribe products that reduce sensitive teeth.

Most people don't know what to do if they break a tooth. Firstly, don't throw away your tooth! Collect the tooth, touching only the crown of the tooth, and store it in a safe area. Place gauze in the mouth to control bleeding, and apply a cold pack or ice outside the area to reduce swelling and pain. You may take Advil or Tylenol to help with the pain. Call your dentist's emergency number right away.

Some researchers have looked into the link between how different cultures use their jaws. In parts of East Asia, for example, it is common to find people without wisdomteeth.
