Needing a safe and supportive space to dig up the old roots and lay the foundation for growth? With over 15 years working in health care, I have a special understanding of the importance of balance, wellness, and self-compassion. I have a Master's of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology, a Bachelor of Nursing degree, a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology, and a Bachelor of Arts deg

ree with a major in Religious Studies
I work with youth and adults who have mood disorders, anxiety, depression, chronic illness, those dealing with trauma and crisis, and those at the end of life. I understand the important relationship between physical and mental health and wellness, and work with the understanding that all aspects of each person (physical, mental, spiritual, social, intellectual) are important and influence who we are. I work with people where they are in life, and do my best to work from a person centered approach, understanding that the client is the expert on their life and know what is truly important to them.

🎓 June Series: Graduated, Now What?

Happy graduation season! 🎉

Whether you're graduating from high school, college, university, a certificate program, changing careers, going back to school, or simply figuring out your next chapter—this month's series is for you.

Graduation is often celebrated as the finish line, but what about everything that comes after?

The excitement.
The uncertainty.
The pressure.
The possibilities.
The "What if I choose wrong?"
The "What am I supposed to do now?"

This month we will be exploring the ups and downs of life transitions, the emotions that come with change, and the reality that most of us are figuring things out as we go.

Stay tuned as we talk about the excitement, the worries, the what-ifs, and the next steps that come after reaching a big goal.

💛 Because you don't have to have it all figured out to move forward.

So what is it that we all need to hear? It's the joy and happiness are not actually the same thing. Happiness is an emotion and it tends to be tied to circumstances. Good things happen we feel happy and happiness is wonderful.
Joy is different though-Joy is steadier. It can exist even when life is hard, we can feel stressed and still laugh, we can be grieving and still notice something beautiful, and we can be overwhelmed and still experience moments of peace.
Joy often doesn't get noticed because it isn't there to scream at us, it's usually quieter. But when we intentionally pause to notice small moments of goodness, safety, connection, laughter, gratitude, or peace, we're teaching our brains that there is more to life than just survival. And that matters.
A reminder for us all...
You do not need a perfect life to feel moments of joy
Joy is allowed in hard seasons
Small moments matter
Joy, even here

🌿 Joy, Even Here: God Grows Things Slowly

Growth rarely happens all at once.

In nature, roots grow quietly before anything blooms.

And honestly? That feels a lot like healing.

✨ “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11

From a faith perspective, God often works through seasons:
🌱 planting
🌿 waiting
🌧️ stretching
☀️ growing
🌼 blooming

And from a therapy perspective, change also takes time.

🧠 The nervous system does not usually heal through force. It heals through safety, repetition, support, and small consistent experiences.

That means slow growth is still growth.

A small boundary counts.
A moment of rest counts.
A gentle choice counts.
A new coping skill counts.
Noticing joy again counts.

💬 You do not have to rush what God is growing.

You do not have to shame yourself for needing time.

Sometimes the quiet work is still holy work.

✨ Reflection:
What small area of growth can I honour today?

🌿 Joy, Even Here: Joy Isn’t Gone—It’s Been Quiet

Sometimes joy doesn’t disappear.

Sometimes it just gets buried under exhaustion, grief, stress, responsibility, and survival mode.

✨ “Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

From a faith perspective, stillness can help us remember that we are held, even when life feels heavy.

From a clinical perspective, stillness can also give the nervous system a chance to soften.

🧠 When we are constantly busy, overwhelmed, or on guard, the brain has less capacity to notice goodness.

Joy may still be present—but quieter.

It may look like:

☕ one peaceful sip
🌿 a deep breath
🤍 a safe person
☀️ sunlight through the window
🙏 a moment of prayer
🕯️ a small reminder that you are not alone

💬 Joy is not gone.

It may just need space to be noticed again.

✨ Reflection Prompt:
Where did joy quietly show up this week?

🌱Joy, Even Here: You Deserve a Life That Feels Better Than This

This is not a:

✨ quit your job tomorrow
✨ move across the country
✨ reinvent your entire life by Monday

kind of post.

Because honestly? Life is rarely that simple.

But you still deserve a life that feels better than constant survival mode.

🧠 From a therapy perspective, chronic stress can slowly become normalized.

Exhaustion becomes normal.

Over-functioning becomes normal.

Ignoring your own needs becomes normal.

Feeling disconnected from joy becomes normal.

But normal does not automatically mean healthy.

💬 You are not doing life wrong.

You may simply be carrying more than your nervous system was designed to hold without support.

Hope does not have to create pressure.

Hope can look like:

🌿 asking for help
🌿 setting one boundary
🌿 resting without guilt
🌿 reaching out for support
🌿 making one small choice that feels more like you

Because healing does not usually happen all at once.

And wanting things to feel lighter does not make you weak, selfish, or ungrateful.

You deserve:

🤍 more peace
🤍 more support
🤍 more joy
🤍 more room to breathe

Not perfection.

Just better.

✨ Reflection:

If life felt even slightly better right now… what would feel different?

💬

What would help you most right now?

🤍 Rest
🌿 Support
☀️ Boundaries
✨ More joy

🌱 Joy, Even Here: Tiny Shifts That Change How Life Feels

You do not have to change your whole life overnight.

Sometimes healing starts with one tiny shift.

We often think change has to be dramatic:

✨ new job
✨ new routine
✨ huge life decision
✨ complete reinvention

But real life usually changes much more quietly than that.

🧠 From a clinical perspective, this is part of neuroplasticity — your brain learning through repeated experiences and repeated choices over time.

Small shifts matter because they interrupt old patterns and create new pathways.

Tiny shifts might look like:

🌿 taking one intentional break
🌿 stepping outside for fresh air
🌿 saying no before resentment builds
🌿 drinking water before another coffee
🌿 putting your phone down for ten minutes
🌿 resting before complete exhaustion

None of these things seem life changing in the moment.

But over time, they teach your nervous system:

🤍 I can pause
🤍 I can choose differently
🤍 I can care for myself here

💬 You do not need a perfect life to build a better-feeling one.

We're building better—not perfect.

✨ Reflection:

What is one tiny shift that would make today feel even 1% lighter?

💬

What tiny shift would help most right now?

🌿 More rest
☀️ More movement
🤍 Better boundaries
☕ More quiet moments

🧠 Hump Day Slump Day: Useless Psychology Facts

Your brain treats certainty like safety.

Which is why uncertainty can feel surprisingly uncomfortable.

🧠 Even if the current situation isn't ideal…

your nervous system often prefers:

✔️ predictable stress
over
❓ unknown outcomes

This is why:
⚡ change feels scary
⚡ new routines feel weird
⚡ growth feels uncomfortable

💬 Sometimes anxiety isn’t saying:

“Danger!”

Sometimes it’s saying:

“Wait… this is different.”

🌿 Uncomfortable doesn’t automatically mean wrong.

✨ Tiny challenge:

Try one tiny thing differently today.

🌱 Joy, Even Here: Values vs Circumstances

There are things in life we can control…

…and many things we cannot.

You may not control:
⚡ your job
⚡ difficult seasons
⚡ other people
⚡ unexpected stress
⚡ what happened to you

But you can influence how you show up within those experiences.

🧠 From a therapy perspective, emotional wellbeing often improves when our actions become more aligned with our values.

Because values are different from goals.

Goals can be completed.

Values become direction.

For example:

✨ “I value connection”
→ text a friend

✨ “I value health”
→ drink water, go for a walk

✨ “I value rest”
→ allow a pause without guilt

💬 Small actions matter because your nervous system learns through repetition.

Tiny choices repeated over time become evidence:

“I am building a life that feels more like me.”

✨ Reflection:

What is one value you want more of this week?

💬

What feels most important right now?

🌿 Peace
🤍 Connection
☀️ Purpose
✨ Balance

🌱 Joy, Even Here: Fulfillment Isn’t Found—It’s Built

A lot of us grow up believing fulfillment is something we eventually arrive at:

✨ the right job
✨ the right relationship
✨ more money
✨ the right season of life
✨ finally “having it together”

But life usually doesn’t work that way.

🧠 From a clinical perspective, fulfillment is often less about circumstances and more about values-based living—making small choices that move us toward what matters most.

This is part of ACT (Acceptance & Commitment Therapy):

Not waiting for life to feel perfect before living meaningfully.

Because even in hard seasons, you can still build moments of:

🌿 connection
🌿 purpose
🌿 creativity
🌿 rest
🌿 kindness
🌿 joy

💬 Fulfillment isn’t usually found all at once.

It’s built:

one choice
one habit
one boundary
one small moment at a time

You do not need to overhaul your life overnight.

We’re building better—not perfect.

✨ Reflection:

What matters most to you right now?

💬

What gives you the strongest sense of meaning lately?
