Preston Houle, 29 from Portage la Prairie, was at the beach with his fiancƩe and their three children on July 18, 2025 when they heard a woman screaming for help.

A 2 year old boy had been playing in the water with other children when he did not resurface. He was pulled from the water not breathing.

Preston Houle ran over to the mother holding her unconscious child. Houle put the child on the ground and began giving him chest compressions to try and revive him. Houle's fiancƩe called 911 after finding service. The toddler coughed up some water, the paramedics came, treated the boy and took him to hospital in stable condition.

The child is expected to make a complete recovery.

Houle said he had never used his CPR training before. He initially took first aid training at 18, and kept his certification up to date when he had children.

Preston Houle, you are a hero. Your actions saved a life and much heartbreak.

If this inspires anyone, please sign up for a first aid course. You could also be instrumental in saving a life someday.

She Was Just Helping Medical Students—Then She Became the Patient

Karen Silverio was playing the role of a patient for medical students when the unthinkable happened. She collapsed. Her heart had stopped.

In an instant, the classroom exercise turned into a real-life emergency. Time was running out.

Medical student Krzysztof Zembrzuski didn’t hesitate. He started CPR, pushing hard and fast on her chest, fighting to bring her back. Every second mattered. Every compression was a battle between life and death.

And then—her heart restarted. She survived.

Now, Karen is on a mission. She holds CPR classes to make sure others know what to do when life hangs in the balance.

Her story is proof that sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, anywhere. And when it does, the only thing that matters is whether someone nearby knows CPR.

Would you?

Learn it. Share it. Teach it. Because the pearly gates weren’t ready for her—and they shouldn’t be ready for anyone just because no one knew what to do.

She Collapsed on the Field. Her Heart Had Stopped.

Maeve was just 15, full of life, and in the middle of softball tryouts when everything changed. One moment she was running drills, the next she was on the ground, unresponsive.

At first, her coaches thought it was a seizure. But then they checked for a pulse. Nothing. Her heart had stopped.

In that terrifying moment, her trainer and coach refused to let her slip away. They grabbed an AED, shocked her heart, and started CPR. Minutes passed. Still no heartbeat. But they didn’t give up.

Finally, after multiple shocks, Maeve’s pulse returned. She was rushed to the hospital and later airlifted to a cardiac specialist team. Doctors discovered an undiagnosed heart condition and implanted a life-saving defibrillator to prevent this from ever happening again.

Less than a year later, Maeve stepped back onto the field—a walking miracle.

Her story is a chilling reminder that sudden cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere. It also proves that knowing CPR and how to use an AED saves lives.

If this were your child, your friend, or a teammate—would you know what to do?
