I was at a party once where a women was sharing how she had been following a nutrition plan and how great it was going. She finished by saying "I'd still like to lose a few pounds but things are going well.", to which another person said "You don't need to lose any more weight - you look great!"
A few minutes later, the same woman who insisted the first one no longer needed to lose weight told me how she was at her wits end and absolutely needed to lose weight since she was now the heaviest she's ever been... 120 lbs.
For most women I know, 120 lbs is NOT an excessive weight size they'd be worried about. But for this second woman, it WAS 10-15lbs heavier than she'd ever been in her 20+ years as a an adult.
A few days later, while talking to another friend, she mentioned how she really needed to get back to eating well and exercising. I replied with "I know exactly how you feel since I feel the same way!", to which she said "You don't have to lose weight at all - you look great already!"
The point to all of this is : over the years, I've found that, while meaning well, people judge others about their weight size, but not in the way we once did. Today, it's often considered negative to say you want to lose weight, and the reaction from society is to say it's not necessary.
Of course it's not necessary! But that doesn't change how someone feels.
Every person who wants to lose weight has their own reasons for wanting to. What I've found most people are looking for in this conversation is someone to listen, to encourage them on their endeavours and to sympathise with them when things aren't going great.
You take your journey for your reasons, mama! I’ll support it.
