Our Story

From many local requests over the years, the National Spiritual Director of Canada, Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab asked a teacher, Gen Kelsang Rigden to move to Winnipeg in August 2016 to see if there is still interest and to help develop a Centre. Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso heard about this development and was very pleased and gave the community donations from the International Temples Project in Canada to secure a building and extensively renovate it to create a modern, store front, Meditation space. We currently are a branch of Kadampa Meditation Centre Canada, www.kadampa.ca a non-profit charity and member of the International Kadampa Buddhist Union. There are three reasons we study and practice Buddha’s teachings: 1. to develop our wisdom, 2. to cultivate a good heart, and 3. to maintain a peaceful state of mind. If we do not strive to develop our wisdom we will always remain ignorant of ultimate truth – the true nature of reality. Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. If our mind is not peaceful then even if we have ideal conditions, we find that we are not happy. On the other hand when we experience peaceful states of mind, we can be happy even if our external conditions are bad. Therefore, the development of these qualities is of the utmost importance for our daily happiness, and for our society in general.
