This Earth Day, it’s a good time to think about how climate change affects our communities. šŸŒ

Extreme weather events, from floods and storms to heatwaves, are becoming more frequent, and they often create situations where first aid and emergency response skills are needed more than ever. Being prepared isn’t just about having a kit; it’s about knowing what to do, staying calm, and helping those around you when unexpected events happen.

Our Emergency Response Unit (ERU) program trains volunteers to respond safely and effectively during disasters, ensuring communities can recover faster and more efficiently. From first aid to disaster response, these skills make a real difference when every moment counts.

This Earth Day, consider how being ready for the unexpected helps protect both people and communities. Consider donating to help support this work here https://sja.ca/en/donate?srsltid=AfmBOorJjFu7i2h4nZmmBQxhyI867ELE2WcID8VbYEKCnJPGvExJbteI.

Spring is here, and with it comes event season, from marathons and music festivals to local community gatherings. 🌱 🌷 It's a time for fun, connection, and activity, but it also comes with potential risks. Being prepared helps keep everyone safe and ensures events run smoothly.

If you're planning to attend events this spring, there are a few things to keep in mind. Stay hydrated, dress for the weather, know where the first-aid stations are, and pay attention to your own well-being as well as those around you.

Being mindful and ready helps you enjoy events safely and support others if something goes wrong.

Stress is part of everyday life, but it doesn't have to take over.

Notice how it shows up in yourself: trouble sleeping, irritability, headaches, or feeling constantly on edge. You might also see signs in others, like withdrawn behaviour, tension, or sudden mood changes.

Simple ways to cope include taking a few deep breaths, stepping outside for some fresh air, or talking things over with someone you trust.

Taking small steps like these can help you feel more in control and support the people around you, too.

Happy National Puppy Day! 🐾

Today, we celebrate the joy, comfort, and unconditional love that puppies and dogs bring into our lives. At St. John Ambulance’s Therapy Dog Program, volunteer teams bring that same warmth into hospitals, long-term care homes, schools, libraries, and more. Offering comfort, connection, and emotional support through a wagging tail and a gentle paw.

Every visit makes a meaningful difference in someone’s day. Learn more here. https://sja.ca/en/community-services/therapy-dog-program?gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=7216830908&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwZ6kiZ_FkgMVAGpHAR2mcyR8EAAYASAAEgLi6fD_BwE
