🐾Our volunteers go to the Ronald McDonald House with one mission: To bring comfort when families need it the most.

For parents and children who are far from home and facing hard days, a visit from a therapy dog can feel like a moment of hope, home, and relief. Our volunteers share their time, compassion, and love so families can experience comfort in moments of uncertainty. We're endlessly grateful for the heart they bring to their communities. Volunteers make all the difference.

Celebrating a Local Hero: Squeaker the Therapy Dog

We are moved by this story from the Winnipeg Free Press about Squeaker who is one of our therapy dogs that will be retiring after 10 years of dedicated service bringing joy and comfort to residents at Poseidon Long-Term Care Home.

Squeaker’s weekly visits became more than just meet and greets they were moments of connection, comfort, and community for residents and staff who looked forward to her gentle presence.

Let’s all take a moment to thank Squeaker and her owner, Suz Shiells, for the years of compassion and smiles they’ve shared with so many in our community.

A holiday safety reminder from St. John Ambulance ✨🎄

The holidays are a time to celebrate, but safety should always be on your list. A few simple precautions can help keep your celebrations merry and bright, and prevent emergencies before they happen.

Blow out candles before leaving the room or going to bed. Never leave open flames unattended.

Keep an eye on the stove while cooking. Most holiday fires start in the kitchen.

Inspect lights and cords for damage or fraying, and replace any that look worn. Avoid overloading outlets.

Water real trees daily and keep them away from heat sources to reduce fire risk.

Be prepared for winter weather. Keep a first aid kit, blanket, and emergency supplies in your car.

Know your first aid basics. Quick action can make all the difference in an emergency.

A few extra seconds of caution can help you enjoy a safe, happy holiday season with those who matter most. 💚

At St. John Ambulance, our Therapy Dog teams bring comfort, connection, and confidence to people of all ages.

This holiday season, we’re celebrating the dogs who make a real difference in communities across Canada dogs like Jack!

Jack is part of a unique program at his local library. During ""Literacy with a Lab"" children gather to practice reading aloud with Jack. With his gentle presence by their side, young readers build confidence, improve their skills, and discover the joy of reading.

And it doesn’t stop there. Jack helps create community, spark new friendships, and ease the stress families often feel when supporting young readers.

With SJA, therapy dogs like Jack volunteer every day, bringing smiles to hospitals, care homes, schools, libraries, and more.

Programs like these are made possible by people who believe in compassionate community care. Your support helps dogs like Jack continue spreading comfort and connection for years to come.

Our four therapy dogs sure got lots of attention at the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce State of the Province event yesterday. It was wonderful to see how much joy they brought to everyone who visited our booth.

We loved watching people light up, take a moment to relax, and enjoy some dog cuddles while learning more about what we do!
