To wrap up Mental Health Week, we want to highlight our Neurodiversity-Informed and Adult ADHD Occupational Therapy Program!

🤔 What is OT?

Occupational Therapy helps clients independently engage in meaningful activities (also called “occupations”) of daily life, including self-care, community access, leisure and productivity activities, and vocational goals.

🧠 What does it mean to be Neurodiversity-Informed?

At BBT, we understand that brains are wired differently – it’s just one variation of what makes people diverse! Instead of trying to “fix” differences, we work with clients to create treatment plans tailored to their needs and strengths to meet their OT-related goals.

Examples of OT support that may be helpful particularly for neurodiverse individuals include:
🧠 Executive function coaching (planning, time management, organization)
🧘 Focus and energy regulation strategies
🗣️ Self-advocacy skills for work, school, and relationships
💭 Tools for sensory regulation and daily routines
💪🏼 Strengthening emotional resilience

See the attached brochure to learn more about our Neurodiversity-Informed and Adult ADHD program!

Mental health program spotlight: Driving Anxiety Program (DAP)!

🤔 What is DAP?

BBT’s Driving Anxiety Program utilizes an Occupational Therapist and Registered Driving Instructor to provide in-clinic assessments and on-road evaluations to assess functional limitations and abilities, and to support clients in driving as it relates to self-care, community management, and/or employment.

💭 Is DAP for me?

DAP is a form of Exposure Therapy for individuals who are struggling to resume their driving duties as it relates to self-care activities, community management, or employment.

It is important to note that this program does not teach clients how to drive. It is often used as treatment for driving anxiety following motor vehicle accidents and aims to help manage experienced anxiety using mindfulness strategies, to improve driving confidence, and return to functional driving.

To see other FAQs, see the attached brochure!

Today’s mental health program spotlight is on Behavioural Activation!

🤔 What is Behavioural Activation (BA)?

Behavioural Activation aims to disrupt negative behavioural patterns associated with mental health conditions, such as depression, and is designed to support clients in a gradual increase of engagement in meaningful activities, to improve readiness for rehabilitation and to progress towards exposure therapy and/or return-to-work rehabilitation.

Through activity scheduling and monitoring, identifying values-based goals, and addressing barriers to healthy habits, clients are supported to engage in rewarding, meaningful activities to improve their mood, daily function, and overall wellbeing.

💭 Who Benefits from BA?

Our program focuses on empowering clients with education, an enjoyable and productive routine, motivating goals, accountability, and mindfulness strategies to improve their mood, engagement in activities, and self-efficacy.

BA can help individuals experiencing anxiety or depression who:

✨ Struggle with motivation and low mood, finding it difficult to engage in daily activity.
🏡 Are having difficulty functioning in their home or out in the community.
💼 May have been unsuccessful at returning to work.

See the attached brochure to learn more about our Behavioural Activation program!

The first mental health program we are spotlighting for Mental Health Week is Exposure Therapy!

🤔 What is Exposure Therapy (ET)?

Exposure Therapy is designed to help individuals confront fears by gradually exposing them to the stressor. Avoiding feared environments may temporarily ease anxiety, but over time, can make the fear worse and interfere with daily life. Gradual exposure to feared stimuli breaks the pattern of avoidance and reduces fear responses over time.

💭 What are the Benefits of ET?

Exposure Therapy can help clients return to work, engage in activities of daily living more effectively, maintain social connections, and promote healthy coping strategies, all contributing to improved mental health and overall quality of life.

See the attached brochure to learn more about our Exposure Therapy program!
