Rolly de Juan’s passion for the heart is contagious. It’s easy to get excited as he talks about the many mysteries and marvels of the heart including all that remains unknown and that he works to discover in his work as a Charge Cardiology Technologist at HSC.

“The heart is amazing and I’ve always been fascinated by it,” said Rolly. “While we know a lot about the functions of the heart, there remains so much to learn.”

Early in life, Rolly wanted to be a doctor, but following his high school graduation he pursued work in retail management. It wasn’t until ten years later that a desire to pursue a new career began beating loudly from his fist-sized heart, prompting a search for a new, fulfilling role.

“I needed a career change and I remembered my past interest in health care,” said Rolly. “I needed to take an upgrade course, Biology 12, and when we covered the cardiovascular component, my interest soared. I thought to myself, this is the field I want to pursue.”

CJOB: Two Decades of Connecting HSC with the Community Through the Power of Radiothons

For 20 years, 680 CJOB has been the voice behind our Radiothon. The first ever health care Radiothon to air on CJOB, our Innovation HSC Radiothon continues to set the standard for raising awareness and funds for patient care at HSC—Manitoba’s Hospital.

From day one, Richard Cloutier has been on air, connecting with patients and families to share their powerful stories of care and impact. His dedication, alongside familiar voices like Hal Anderson, Jim Toth, Brett Megarry, and Greg Mackling, has inspired Manitobans to give generously year after year.

We are so grateful for our partnership with Corus Entertainment and the incredible team at CJOB who continue to amplify the HSC Foundation’s message and help change lives at HSC.

Here’s to 20 years of impact, storytelling, and community support—and to many more to come! 🎙️✨

In 2022, Zach Schnitzer reached a breaking point with his mental health. Struggling with anxiety, depression, and the pressures of work and family, he says daily life felt impossible.

“I couldn’t make decisions, couldn’t sleep,” Zach recalls.

At HSC Winnipeg, with the support of Dr. Cesar Rona and Dr. Jessica Enns, Zach found stability through continued care. Over time, he regained balance and confidence. After his discharge, outpatient care helped him stay on track with his journey to better mental health.

Today, Zach is giving back by donating and sharing his story to encourage others to seek help when they need it most.

Together, we’ve made a difference!

Over the past 20 years, the Innovation HSC Radiothon, presented by Maric Homes, has raised over $2.5 million in support of patient care at HSC_Winnipeg – Manitoba’s Hospital.

Thanks to your generosity, we have helped purchase cutting-edge medical equipment, have supported groundbreaking research, and have helped develop state-of-the-art spaces that improve care for patients and their families.

On January 16, 2026, we’ll be celebrating two decades of stories, impact, and lives changed—and working to raise even more funds to continue building the future of health care at HSC.

“An important and true message to hear, is that no one will feel the same way forever. Change is always possible and there is help out there to achieve it. With support, many people who have faced their own struggles with suicidal thoughts have gone on to live very happy and fulfilling lives, where these thoughts no longer exist.” – Dr. Matthew Lander, Child Adolescent Psychiatrist, HSC

Having grown up around two parents working in psychiatry, it’s not surprising that Dr. Matthew Lander developed a natural ability to help others through therapy and conversation. In his current role as Service Chief for both the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry inpatient units and for the Emergency psychiatry service at HSC Children’s Hospital, Dr. Lander impacts and influences the care of many youth battling suicidal thoughts, channeling his passion and knowledge to support those going through some of the most difficult times of their lives.

“I’m very grateful to work in a field where I have the privilege of hearing people’s stories and getting to know who they are,” said Dr. Lander. “I often see young people at their lowest points, experiencing hopelessness and/or high levels of suicidality – but the most rewarding part of what I do is when I have the opportunity to see patients and their families work through the process of treatment and recovery."

This summer, two-time cancer survivor Jon Fenton took on an incredible challenge. He set out to swim from Grand Beach to Gimli, Manitoba to mark five years since his stem cell transplant.

Wanting to give back to the medical teams that supported him, Jon set out to raise funds for patients in Manitoba and Alberta.

Thanks to the generosity of donors, his efforts raised $15,380 for the Health Sciences Centre Foundation. These funds will support patient care, research, and innovation at HSC Winnipeg.

We are so grateful to Jon and to everyone who contributed to his journey 💙
