National Indigenous History Month is a time to honour the diverse cultures, experiences, and vital contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples. It is also an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonization and how we can take tangible steps toward reconciliation.

Over the month of June, we are reflecting on the past, present, and future contributions of Indigenous people across our health system and on the work being done to improve experiences and outcomes for Indigenous people throughout Manitoba.

By weaving together past, present, and future, we can bring together diverse perspectives and move forward in a good way while honouring the path that brought us here.

Leaving a legacy gift may be simpler than you think—and more flexible than you might expect.

Many people choose to include a gift in their will, allowing them to make a meaningful future contribution without affecting their finances today. But there are other options, too.

You can choose the approach that works best for you, such as:

• Naming the Foundation as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy
• Donating securities or stocks
• Designating the Foundation as a beneficiary of your RRSP, RRIF, pension, or TFSA

Every option looks a little different—but each one allows you to make a lasting impact on patient care and the future of health care in Manitoba.

There’s no minimum gift, and you don’t have to share your plans during your lifetime.

If you do choose to let us know, you’ll be welcomed into the Bannatyne Legacy Circle—where your commitment will be recognized and celebrated. If you choose to let us know but want to remain anonymous, we will of course respect your wishes.

As Leave a Legacy Month comes to a close, it’s a good time to think about the long-term impact you want to have.

What would your first reaction be if you found out you had a brain tumour — and that it was growing?

When Tusia Kozub learned that her brain tumour had grown by 2 cm since her last scan, she kept the news to herself.

“It was December, and I was anxious about it. It was overwhelming,” says Kozub. “I didn’t tell my family for two months.”

Thanks to the HSC Foundation donor-funded Gamma Knife technology at HSC_Winnipeg—which can safely treat brain tumours without incisions and with a low risk of damaging healthy tissue—Kozub found herself literally singing through her Gamma Knife procedure. AND was back home in a few hours.

May is Brain Tumour Awareness Month. In recognition, we invite you to read Kozub’s story and celebrate the difference donor support is making for Manitobans living with brain tumours.

Some gifts make an impact today. Others keep making an impact—year after year.

That’s the power of a legacy gift.

When you choose to leave an endowed gift, it’s invested and managed over time, with annual income supporting patient care, research, and urgent needs at HSC_Winnipeg.

In other words, your gift doesn’t just help once—it keeps helping.

It means the decision you make today can continue supporting patients and families for generations to come.

As we recognize Leave a Legacy Month, it’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when you think beyond today.

Manitoba’s Allied Health Professionals are at the heart of patient care across our province. During Allied Health Professionals Week, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the nearly 8,000 Allied Health employees working in more than 70 disciplines across Manitoba’s health system. Thank you for the compassion, expertise, and dedication you bring to Manitobans every day.

Allied Health represents an incredibly diverse and specialized workforce. Respiratory therapists, paramedics, medical laboratory technologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech language pathologists, dietitians, diagnostic imaging professionals, pharmacists, recreation therapists, audiologists, and many others each play a unique and essential role in supporting patients, families, and communities.

Across hospitals, clinics, community programs, long-term care homes, and more, Allied Health Professionals are helping shape the future of healthcare in Manitoba. Your expertise and collaboration help make important advancements possible, from the launch of the new Gamma Knife for minimally invasive brain surgery at HSC, to innovative programs like the Community Paramedic program.

As we celebrate your accomplishments, we also recognize the growing demand for your skills and the pressures many teams continue to face. Shared Health and our executive team remain committed to working alongside Allied Health Professionals to support recruitment, retention, and healthy workplaces as we continue building a strong health system for Manitobans together.

This National Nursing Week, we’re proud to celebrate and the nurses at whose compassion, leadership, and expertise continue to shape health care in Manitoba.

From her early days as a bedside nurse in HSC_Winnipeg’s bone marrow transplant unit to her current role as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at Sharedhealthmb, Monika Warren’s career has been guided by one simple goal: making a difference.

This year’s National Nursing Week theme, “The Power of Nurses to Transform Health,” is reflected throughout Warren’s journey—from caring for patients at the bedside to helping improve care at a system-wide level, while never losing sight of the human connection at the heart of nursing.

Read Warren’s full story: https://www.hscfoundation.mb.ca/stories/nnw-monika-warren/

As we close out National Nursing Week, we extend our sincere thanks to all of HSC Winnipeg’s nurses. Your expertise, compassion, and dedication make an extraordinary difference every day for patients and families across Manitoba.
