World MS Day – 30 Years Later
Thirty years ago—almost to the day—I was diagnosed with MS. The doctors told me a cure was likely five to ten years away.
That didn’t happen.
Since then, I’ve had the chance to travel the world through my work as a filmmaker. I’ve met the top researchers, specialists, and doctors in the MS field. I’ve visited the most prestigious institutions dedicated to solving this disease.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
A cure for MS is nowhere in sight.
Even the most optimistic research I’ve seen still talks in timelines of “maybe ten years.” That’s exactly what I heard three decades ago. So maybe the promise of a cure just around the corner is less of a timeline—and more of a carrot on a stick.
So what do we do?
Raise more money?
Let’s be honest about that too:
Over the last 100 years, more than $50 billion has been raised globally to cure or treat MS.
And yet—no cure.
Yes, we’ve seen drugs that may slow progression. But nothing that stops the disease. And for many, those drugs come with major side effects.
I’m not saying we should give up on finding a cure. Not at all.
I believe we should continue to pursue one—but we also need to be realistic.
And while we wait—if it ever does arrive—we need to focus on what we can do now.
Because there are strategies that can work.
Not miracle pills. Not billion-dollar treatments.
Just simple, evidence-based actions:
• Diet
• Exercise
• Vitamin D
• Mindfulness
These aren’t “easy.” They take work. They take discipline. But they’ve changed my life.
30 years after diagnosis, I’m still walking, running, working, and living fully—not because of a breakthrough drug, but because I committed to these daily practices.
So today, on World MS Day, I’m not asking you to donate to a dream.
I’m asking you to invest in discipline.
In action.
In what YOU can control—today.
You can still believe in a cure. I do.
But don’t let that dream stop you from doing the hard, practical work that can help you now.
Dreams and discipline are not the same.
You can have both.
But without action, dreams don’t change a thing.
