Can breast implants make you feel cold?

The answer is yes, they actually can!

Silicone implants don’t warm up instantly, and when temperatures drop to around -20°C or below, some patients notice that extra chill as the silicone takes a little longer to reach body temperature than the surrounding tissue does.

What is “drop and fluff?”

Following breast augmentation, implants often sit higher on the chest. This is a normal part of the early healing process, influenced by post-operative swelling and the natural tightness of the chest muscle and surrounding tissues.

Over the weeks and months that follow, the implants gradually settle into a more natural position (“drop”) while the lower portion of the breast softens and fills out (“fluff”), creating a more balanced, natural contour.

It’s important to allow this process to occur naturally. Avoid attempting to accelerate settling with massage techniques or compression garments unless specifically directed by your surgeon.

Final results take time, and patience is essential, but the outcome is well worth the wait.

Let’s set the record straight. 🩺

A post has been circulating claiming that using a sauna can cause microplastics or silicone to “leach” from breast implants due to high temperatures. This is not accurate.

The human body is highly effective at regulating its internal temperature. Even in a sauna, your core temperature remains within a controlled range, and breast implants are not exposed to the extreme external temperatures in a way that would cause them to degrade or release materials.

As a plastic surgeon, I believe it’s important to address misinformation directly because it can create unnecessary fear and confusion for patients.

It’s completely normal to have questions or concerns about your implants. However, the source of your information matters. Like any field, there are individuals on the fringe who may share misleading claims to attract attention or promote a narrative.

If you’re ever unsure, speak with a qualified medical professional who understands both the science and the procedure. Evidence-based guidance will always be your most reliable source.
