Family Dynamics

Family Dynamics Strengthening Relationships and Communities since 1936. Throughout the years we have evolved and adapted in response to emerging issues impacting family health.

Family Dynamics was originally conceived in 1936 to meet the needs of Winnipeggers where gaps existed in the social safety net. Our broad range of strengths-based programs and services are linked together with “family” at the core. We are committed to building family and community capacity

Our services are available to all Winnipeggers regardless of social or economic circumstances. Most services

are delivered in the community in client homes, schools, child care centres and subsidized housing communities. While our counselling and EAP services along with facilitator training and workshops take place at our agency in the heart of Winnipeg.

Tomorrow (June 3rd) is Red Shirt Day® (of Action for AccessAbility and Inclusion), a day when people across Canada come together and wear red to create a visible display of solidarity: to show their support for disabled people and their families, celebrate the achievements of disabled Canadians, and to pledge their commitment to help create a fully accessible and inclusive society.

Red Shirt Day is an Easter Seals initiative and was first
celebrated in 2019. It takes place on the Wednesday of National AccessAbility
Week each year.

Anyone can take part in Red Shirt Day. Put on your favourite red shirt, take some photos and make a pledge to help improve accessibility and inclusion in your community. Then post your photos and your pledge on social media with the hashtags.

Ever wonder what the acronym 2SLGBTQ+ stands for? Here is a breakdown...

2S – Two-Spirit
A sacred term used by many Indigenous cultures to describe a person who embodies both a masculine and a feminine spirit. Placing 2S at the front honors the history and presence of Indigenous peoples on this land.

L – Le***an
A woman or female-identifying person who is romantically, emotionally, and/or physically attracted to other women.

G – Gay
A person who is attracted to people of the same s*x or gender (often used for men, but can be used by anyone).

B – Bis*xual
A person who is attracted to more than one gender.

T – Transgender
An umbrella term for people whose gender identity differs from the s*x they were assigned at birth.

Q – Q***r or Questioning
Q***r is a proud, catch-all term for the diverse community outside of heteros*xual/cisgender norms. Questioning refers to someone exploring their gender identity or s*xual orientation.

+ – Plus
Represents all of the other wonderful identities, s*xualities, and genders that make up our diverse community (such as Inters*x, As*xual, and Pans*xual) that aren't captured in the main acronym.

❤️ Open conversations build safer homes. Try asking your kids what they know about Pride this week, and let them know your home is always a safe space for them to be exactly who they are.

Strong, healthy communities are built on inclusion, understanding, and love. We are incredibly proud to stand with, support, and celebrate all the diverse families in our communities today and every day.

This National AccessAbility Week, you can help remove the barriers that quietly exclude people every day.

Nearly every Manitoban either has a disability, knows someone with a disability, or will develop a disability at some point in their life. People with disabilities come from all social, economical and educational backgrounds. A disability can occur at any stage of life and may be temporary or permanent. Removing barriers benefits all Manitobans.

For people with disabilities, barriers decide what’s possible and what isn’t.

CMHA’s Mental Health Week is calling on all of us to Come Together, Canada.

Through small, everyday actions of connection, we can strengthen mental health, reduce loneliness, and build healthier communities.

❤Reach out
Connection can start with something simple. Call a friend. Text a family member. Say hello to a neighbour. Offer a helping hand. Small actions can turn an ordinary day into a moment of connection and remind someone they’re not alone.

🤓Check in with yourself
Pause for a moment and notice how you’re feeling. Do you need rest? A break? A conversation? Taking time to understand what you need and reaching out for support when you need it is an important part of caring for your mental health.

☕Come together in everyday moments
Connection doesn’t have to be big to matter. Invite someone for a walk. Share a coffee. Start a conversation. Show up at a community event.

Little moments of coming together can create stronger relationships, stronger communities, and stronger mental health for everyone.

Connection is something we can practice every day.

The more we reach out, check in, and come together, the stronger we all become.
