✨Join our Sleep Seminar & Learn Strategies For Common Sleep Mistakes Parents Often Make Without Realizing It:

📊 Not Getting Enough Sleep:

Many parents don’t know that school kids (ages 6-12) need 9-12 hours of good sleep every night.

Kids who don’t get enough sleep often have trouble paying attention, controlling their feelings, and behaving well - sometimes looking like they have ADHD when they’re really just tired!

Your body needs sleep even more than it needs food.

🛌 Creating Sleep Habits That Don’t Work:

When we always rock, hold, or lie down with kids until they fall asleep, we accidentally teach them they need us to sleep.

Children who learn to fall asleep on their own are much better at going back to sleep when they wake up during the night.

⏱️ Missing the Optimal Sleep Window:

Every kid has a “sleepy window” - a time when their body is ready for sleep.

If you miss this window, their body makes stress hormones that make it way harder to fall asleep and stay asleep all night.

Figuring out this perfect time for your child makes a huge difference.

Want to learn easy ways to fix these common problems?

Join Dr. Kirsten Wirth on May 14th for our sleep seminar on how to get your child to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Parents, does bedtime feel like a nightly battle? Here are actionable tips you can use to change nightly battles into easy nights. 💤🌙

What’s really happening when your child fights sleep:
✅ They love attention from their caregivers
✅ They are already overtired
✅ They have trouble managing executive function and emotions
✅ They would much rather play or keep doing what they were doing

Try these evidence-based approaches:

✅ Create a consistent, calming routine (30-60 minutes)
✅ Validate feelings: “I understand you want to play more. It’s hard to stop having fun.”
✅ Offer limited choices: “Would you like the blue or green pajamas tonight?”
✅ Use a visual schedule so expectations are clear
✅ Ensure their sleep environment is cool, comfortable, dark, and free of screens and devices

Remember, consistent, loving but firm responses to bedtime resistance help children develop healthy sleep associations, behaviour management, and emotional regulation skills.

Need more personalized support with sleep challenges? Join us May 14th for an in-person seminar on helping your child fall asleep and stay asleep. 😴

We’ve all been there—your child misbehaves, and the first instinct is to punish. Because that’s what we were taught, right?

But here’s the truth: Punishments don’t teach new skills. They can create fear, not understanding of what TO DO.

✨ Instead of threatening, teach what they should do, and reinforce it

✨ Mean what you say and follow through, so they learn to trust what you say

Ready to transform your challenging moments into connection opportunities?

Join our Gentle Parenting Seminar next Wednesday from 7-8pm. Comment “Connection” and we’ll send you the link!

How ABA Therapy Works 🩵

Every child learns in their own way. ABA therapy provides a structured, evidence-based approach to support their growth in a way that is positive and encouraging.

Here’s how it works:

🔹Assessment & Goal Setting – We start by understanding your child’s strengths and needs to create a personalized plan.

🔹 Positive Reinforcement – Encouraging progress by reinforcing helpful behaviours and skills.

🔹 Skill Building – Using engaging activities to develop communication, social, daily living, and other skills.

🔹 Parental Support & Involvement – Equipping families with tools to promote and reinforce progress at home.

🔹 Ongoing Progress Monitoring – Adjusting strategies as your child grows and learns.

Together, we’ll help your child build skills and independence. 💙

As we begin Autism Acceptance Month this April, we celebrate the beautiful diversity of human minds and experiences.

True acceptance means recognizing autistic individuals for who they are while supporting their journey of growth and learning.

At Wirth Behavioural Health, we believe in both embracing neurodiversity AND providing pathways for meaningful skill development that enriches lives.

Throughout this month, we invite you to join us in moving beyond awareness to creating environments where autistic individuals can both feel accepted and access the tools they need to thrive in a complex world.

How are you promoting understanding, support, and growth in your community this month?
