I was honoured to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal yesterday, and I’m humbled to stand beside Jean Hodgins and other CF Canada King Charles Medal recipients across Canada. Over the years they have taken on seemingly insurmountable tasks with stubborn determination. And behind each medal winner is a team of volunteers - parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, health care professionals, and those persons who live each day with the challenges of cystic fibrosis- a complex disease that affects all parts of a person’s life. So I consider myself simply a representative of the many who deserve this honour as well. The CF Community has come a long way since the inception of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (now ) in 1960 - thanks to grass roots fundraising, brilliant researchers, breakthrough medicines and therapies, and most of all, the bravery and commitment of children living with cystic fibrosis, some of whom left us too early, before the research caught up to their needs. This honour is a tribute also to the bravery and commitment of those who are now living easier and more productive lives - not without challenges, but full and joyful lives, nonetheless. Yet there is still much work to be done - until all those living with CF - every Manitoban, every Canadian, and beyond, has access to the lifesaving medicines and treatments they need, and ultimately access to a cure. Thank you to King Charles, to the Governor General, and to CF Canada for giving us the opportunity to highlight this amazing CF family across Canada. Let’s keep up the good work! 🙏🏻
