This beautiful autumn sky made me stop and breathe in all the scents of the season. Autumn is my favourite time in Manitoba. I love the rich colours of the changing leaves on the trees against the backdrop of the blue and, grey, and white sky. I have always embraced change, thirsted for it even. Never staying out for very long. Change is the only constant, is said.
I am now trying to embrace the changing seasons where I live, instead.
Autumn has sometimes been a adepressing time for me over the past years, as it meant the cold weather would soon be upon us. But, in learning to be present I am enjoying a newfound gratitude for this season again.
As I watched a family of swans taking a rest in the little bay, on their way south (the white flecks, lol), I remembered how this would often, in the past, make me feel sad that I wasn’t flying to a warmer place too.
But I have found contentment in this place, and gratitude for the freedom we have here, unlike so many others in the world right now.
I also feel a connection to the land that I have not had in the past. A connection to my ancestral roots. And a desire to learn more about my heritage. So I said migwetch and maarsii to the geese and wished them a safe journey.
