Do you know what your A1C number is? Do you know what the AIC test is for?

The A1C test is a common blood test for diagnosing diabetes. For people living with diabetes, the test checks how well they manage blood sugar levels. The A1C test also is called the glycated hemoglobin, glycosylated hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C or HbA1c test.

An A1C test result shows the average blood sugar level over the past 2 to 3 months. The A1C test measures what percentage of hemoglobin in the blood is coated with sugar, also called glycated.

The higher the A1C level is, the poorer the blood sugar management. And the higher the risk of having health concerns related to diabetes. Like Heart Attacks and Strokes!

My Story...
Hello fellow members, my name is Stan, I’ve been out of the community since the end of December as I took ill. Let me give you a quick snap shot into my journey thus far.

At the end of December, I suddenly ended up in the hospital. I had ketoacidosis and almost slipped into a diabetic coma. Sugars were at 45mmol/L 6 days later I was discharged and went home. 3 days after being home I had a massive heart attack and was rushed into surgery. Almost too late. I ended up having two stents put in, had several other blood clots they couldn’t do anything about ( right away ), and was admitted to the Intensive care unit. During this time I had several Drs. approach me and expressed their opinion that my heart had been so damaged, ( my hearts running at a 30% capacity right now ), that they thought I was ‘not’ going to get out of the ICU. I told them they were wrong and that I was walking out!
38 DAYS LATER…I did just that!

I’m home and recovering. The real tragedy came while I was in the hospital. My financial status was brought to it’s knees. Without me working and generating an income – my family became instantly crippled! My spouse wasn’t working and not well enough to do so. Forget the stress of worrying if I would be coming home or not, but now add the stress of “will she have a home for me to come home to?”
You never know what tomorrow is going to bring!

How many people say..."oh, that won't happen to me, I'm too young or I'm in great shape", Guess what, I'm 59, and I was one of those guys. Take care of your body, manage your diabetes, and look after your financial security. Your one day might be tomorrow, and then what?!
To your health.
