“Receiving the PRIME X Community Grant is a tremendous opportunity for the Mental Health sector table of Immigration Partnership Winnipeg. This funding not only provides essential resources to conduct community-engaged research on su***de and suicidal ideation within newcomer families but also connects our work to a broader provincial initiative dedicated to empowering community-led solutions to family mental health needs.” ~ Kris Ontong, Project Manager for IPW's Mental Health sector table.

We're sharing our deep gratitude for RBC - BIG thank you for the transformative $250,000 gift towards PRIME X Community Grants!

PRIME X Community provides funding to community-based organizations in Manitoba that support youth and family mental health. The PRIME_Theme research theme at Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba has awarded these funds for the design and delivery of innovative mental health initiatives.

Congratulations to Pinaymootang Health Centre, Immigration Partnership Winnipeg, Canadian Mental Health Association Manitoba and Winnipeg, Afro-Caribbean Mentorship Program, Resilia Community Wellness Centre, and Mood Disorders Association of Manitoba! Thank you for all the incredible work you do supporting mental health in our community.

As we look ahead to the final five weeks of 2025 while continuing to mark 40 years as a pan-Canadian voice for su***de prevention, the Canadian Association for Su***de Prevention (CASP) is encouraged by the growing interest in our recent programming:

✅ Our World Su***de Prevention Day (WSPD) webinar, “Life Promotion and Indigenous Knowledge: Changing Narratives on Su***de” saw record numbers with 1000+ registrations and 460+ attendees. We supplemented this webinar with a new WSPD Toolkit and several media interviews.

✅ The planting of our fourth Forest of Hope on WSPD in the Town of Stony Plain, Alberta helped raise awareness about su***de prevention and promote healing while contributing to a healthy and sustainable forest.

✅ The launch of our new “Focus on KTE” series saw excellent engagement; the release of the next edition is coming in early December and will feature the development of the Friends and Family of Individuals at Risk of Su***de Training (FIRST) program.

✅ Our International Day for People Impacted by Su***de Loss’s (IDPISL) webinar, “Supporting Youth Hearts”, explored a topic of great interest to parents and caregivers. We supplemented the webinar with a Resource List and a profile article featuring a person with lived and living experience of su***de loss.

A friendly reminder that CASP relies primarily on donations to make events and resources like these available. If you or someone you care about has benefited from our recent efforts, please consider making a donation to CASP today oo help sustain and grow our programming.

Your support helps us continue to offer opportunities that build awareness, connection, hope and healing among people with lived and living experiences of su***de and su***de loss across Canada. Together, we can make a difference. Donate today ❤️ ⬇️

During Mental Illness Awareness Week, let’s reaffirm that:

💙 Kindness matters. A single act of understanding, listening, or caring can make a difference.

💙 Stigma harms. We must challenge misconceptions and speak openly about mental health.

💙 Access is essential. We need to strengthen pathways to culturally safe, accessible mental health supports in newcomer communities.

Let’s commit to being compassionate — to ourselves, our neighbours, and new Canadians. Let’s advocate (locally, provincially, federally) for improved funding, language-appropriate services, outreach in newcomer neighbourhoods, mental health education in settlement programs, and partnerships with community groups.

Together, we can help ensure that no newcomer struggles in silence. 💙

📣 Headline (The Hill Times): Trend of increasing mental health challenges requires much more funding, say health sector experts

"The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) reported in November 2024 that Canadians identified as having "poor" or "fair" mental health three times more often than before the COVID-19 pandemic (26 per cent in 2021 compared to 8.9 per cent in 2019), and that about 2.5 million Canadians said they weren’t getting adequate mental health care." Manitoba’s health system has activated contingency plans following the national Canada Post strike (via Sharedhealthmb).

All mail-based communications, including appointment letters and patient supplies, are temporarily suspended. Patients will instead receive updates by phone, email, or text message (from a 431 number). No financial information will ever be requested by phone or email. Key materials, such as maps and appointment details, are now available online.

Clinics may experience higher call volumes, so patients are asked for patience and to contact their clinic directly for any concerns or changes.
