Runners typically knock their run training out of the park, the distance, the volume, the pace.
But what about the strengthening? Yes, strengthening is a key component of an endurance program. Giving your muscles the force capacity, building the neuro pathways to them to allow them to fire the way you need them, and building their endurance to higher loads are all important to your run. The right program includes exercises that challenge your single leg stability, glutes, core, and quads.

Here are Justin's favorite exercises for runners:
1) Walking Lunges
2) Bulgarian Split Squats
3) Single Leg Wall Squats
4) Copenhagen Plank

Running injury spotlight - Stress Fractures and how to avoid them!

Stress fractures are small hairline fractures or severe bone bruising in the foot. These typically show up in the long bones of the foot called the Metatarsals. They are caused by repetitive high-impact forces on the foot from running or jumping.

Prevention strategies:
-Comfortable and supportive footwear.
-Training volume: don’t increase your training volume by more than 10-20% per week.
-Going from inside to outside? Decrease your training volume by 20-30% to start outside.

Outdoor running season is here! Here are Justin’s Tips for a strong start to your season:
1) Start slow: especially when transitioning from the treadmill or indoor track to outdoors. Justin recommends decreasing your volume by 20-30% when starting outside.
2) Control the volume (total distance weekly): don’t increase more than 10-20% per week.
3) Intensity: control your intensity, start with intervals of higher intensity before working on maintaining steady state

Thank you to for inviting us out to try their new Isophit training classes! Our team enjoyed a 30min low-impact workout.
