Identity grows strongest when it is grounded in physical, social, and emotional competence. That kind of competence is built in the real world.

When a child contributes to the home in a meaningful way, they build valuable skills. They begin to see that they matter. They become more confident. They see their value.

Responsibility builds competence, and competence strengthens identity.

Small steps rebuild real-world identity. What’s one small shift you’ll try this week?

As a parent, you play an essential role in helping your child develop boundaries by setting clear expectations.

When boundaries are delivered from a place of love and care, kids know they matter.

When boundaries are delivered out of frustration or criticism, boundaries only feel like punishment.

Boundaries protect your child’s attention, focus, sleep, emotional health, and they help your child build social skills and confidence to navigate the physical world.

When a young person loses a stable sense of meaning, the consequences can move beyond anxiety or school refusal.

Withdrawal, panic, or school refusal can be signs your child is feeling untethered from a sense of purpose and worth, not just “acting out.”

When stable anchors disappear, a child can become more than lost or disoriented. They can become untethered from their own feelings and emotions, and disconnected from their worth as a human being.

One small action today…create a quiet, phone-free moment and ask, “What’s been feeling heavy lately?”

Not all apps are the same. Some are tools. Others are built around endless scrolling, constant notifications, and rewards that never quite end.

As a guide and gatekeeper, part of your role is to teach kids to tell the difference. It's one of the most powerful digital skills we can give them.

Save this for your next family check-in and ask your child: “Which apps make you feel better after using them?” or “Which ones leave you feeling drained or frustrated?”

Are smartphones and social media are shaping your child's identity more than you realize?

Your child’s identity develops slowly over time. Identity grows strongest when it is grounded in physical, social, and emotional competence. That kind of competence is built in the real world.

Hours in digital spaces can dull real-world engagement. When identities drift away from family, friends & community — and toward online trends — it can feel like your child is physically present but mentally elsewhere.

Share how you are trying to build more real-world moments at home in the comments below!

Has your child become more withdrawn, not just from you, but from activities they once enjoyed?

You’re not imagining it—and you’re not alone. Many parents I work with are struggling to remain connected with their kids.

Smartphones and social media deliver a nonstop stream of ideas about identity, belonging & self-worth that begins to shape how kids see themselves — often before they’ve had a chance to form those ideas offline.

This isn’t just about screentime — it’s about understanding what constant digital input does to a developing sense of self. Awareness is the first step toward change.

Notice what your child does after screen time — do they seem irritable, serious, withdrawn? Save this if you have been feeling the distance.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴
Often we think of anxiety, depression, stress, substance use or relationship problems as things that just happen to us. But these experiences are never explained by our biology or genetics alone.

Wellbeing describes your psychological, social and physical ability to cope with and respond to the challenges of daily life. It reflects how you feel about yourself, the quality of your relationships and how competent, supported and connected you feel. When your wellbeing is strong, you cope with stress more effectively, build healthier relationships and find it easier to create meaning and direction in your life.

Can a couple truly recover from infidelity or a major betrayal? Many couples struggle with the effects of events that happened years or even decades earlier. It might be an affair, emotional distance during a critical time, or a moment when one partner felt abandoned or unseen. Even if life has moved on, the pain from those moments often lingers. It can shape the way partners argue, withdraw, or struggle to reconnect.

Emotionally Focused Therapy, often referred to as EFT, provides a clear path for couples to address these wounds and rebuild emotional connection. One of the key tools used in EFT is the Attachment Injury Repair Model (AIRM). This model helps couples work through attachment injuries, which are emotional wounds that occur when a partner is unavailable or unresponsive during a time of deep need.

Have you ever been in a relationship that just felt easy? One where you didn’t have to second-guess yourself, where trust came naturally, and where you felt safe being yourself? Maybe you’ve felt anxious in relationships, worrying about whether the other person really cares about you. Or maybe you tend to pull away when things get too close, valuing your independence but sometimes feeling lonely. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone.

The way we experience relationships is largely shaped by attachment style, a pattern of relating that we develop in childhood. It’s not just about romance; it affects friendships, family bonds, and even how we connect with coworkers.
There are four main attachment styles: Secure Attachment, Anxious Attachment, Avoidant Attachment, and Fearful-Avoidant Attachment. Understanding your own can help you grasp why you behave in certain ways in relationships.
