Although spring is around the corner, there still could be another cold spell so here are WINTER TIPS PART 3. Below you will find some ways to keep your child warm and safe while playing outside in the snow.
1 Be extra careful when walking on the road, it may be icy and drivers might have restricted view from snow on their car windows. Icy roads also can be harder to stop on.
2 Do not throw snowballs at people or cars, this could be dangerous. Try aiming for safer things like trees.
3 Have an adult supervise children when building forts or tunnels. This could be dangerous as they could collapse.
4 Don’t put metal objects in one’s mouth, as it could be really cold and freeze to someone’s tongue and cause injury.
5 Try not to eat snow as it can be dirty
6 Choose play areas away from water and roads

WINTER TIPS PART 2
Keeping your child warm and safe during winter starts with proper layering and smart clothing choices. Warm hands and feet are key indicators they’re dressed appropriately. Here are tips to ensure comfort and safety during cold-weather play.

* Dress in layers of clothing that can be put on and taken off easily.
* Wear a hat because a lot of body heat is lost through the head.
* Always keep ears covered to prevent frostbite.
* Wear mittens instead of gloves so that fingers can be bunched together for warmth.
* Wear warm, waterproof boots that are roomy enough for an extra pair of socks and to wiggle toes.
* Remove wet clothing and boots immediately after playing.
* In younger children, remove drawstrings from clothing that could catch on climbing or play equipment. Use Velcro or other snaps instead.
* Use a neck warmer instead of a scarf, and mitten clips instead of a string to prevent choking.
* Babies need extra care and bundling because they cannot generate body heat or tell you if they are cold the way an older child can.

Playing in the snow can be a lot of fun but cold winter play requires extra care. Here are some general tips to help keep your children safe and warm during outdoor activities.
1. Younger children should not play outside alone; ensure they have a buddy or friend for added safety.
2. Keep them indoors when the temperature or wind chill is reported to be -27°C (-16°F) or lower. At these temperatures exposed skin will begin to freeze.
3. Never send children outside unsupervised in extreme weather conditions (e.g. snowstorms).
4. If your child is playing outside, check often to make sure they are warm and dry. Younger children should take regular breaks and have a warm drink to avoid cold related illnesses.
5. Choose play areas for children that are close to a warm shelter, such as your home or a friend’s house.
6. Make sure to apply sunscreen to exposed skin, even on cloudy days.
