Keeping Youth Sports Programs open should be a priority right now because closing them is a lot more dangerous than you may think. Try to be vocal and active in getting your children’s sports camps OPEN again.
Research over the years speaks for itself on this topic but it’s basically ‘adding fuel to the existing fire’, which refers to the increased obesity rate and the rise in insulin resistance (type II diabetes) and depression - specifically in Youth.
When you close youth programs, you keep them sedentary and it’s going to create bad habits every time. You’re now dealing with increased screen time, unhealthy eating habits, anxiety, bad sleeping patterns, posture imbalance, pain, fat gain, etc. It is especially harmful to youth suffering from depression and/or anxiety, where sports is a means of therapy.

We took this quote from another strength coach and it’s incredibly significant when it comes to injury and health care management. Listening to the ‘whispers’ is crucial! It may be a consistent little pain in your back, knee or shoulder... perhaps a weird feeling in your chest, blurriness in your vision, on-and-off pain in your head, unexpected tiredness, numbness, stomach pains, etc.
Health assessments and/or Management Plans are useful, helpful and imperative to keep you functioning and performing at an optimal level at home, work or in sports. Don’t wait for it to ‘yell’ or you could then be dealing with a major injury or chronic disease.
Make use of health management plans and assessments as they are NECESSARY MAINTENANCE.
