A new year doesn’t require a new body.
It invites presence, curiosity, and care.
We’re supporting a softer entry into January —
one that centers nervous-system safety, nourishment, and respect for your body as it is.

We're loving this message from Daily Wellness about easing into the new year, versus the go go go that resolution-mindset can create.

Celebrate your ability to ease back into routine at a pace that actually works for you. This week, honor the fact that you're giving yourself realistic adjustment time instead of forcing instant momentum. Your thoughtful approach to re-entry is something to be proud of.

Reframe this week: Instead of "I should be doing more by now," think "I'm building something sustainable by starting at a realistic pace, and that's exactly what works."

3 years ago Jennifer Bartlett joined our team and we're so glad she did! Jennifer sees folx virtually and in person at her office space in Woodstock. She is our go to for teen referrals and teaches both safeTALK and ASIST, in French, and you guessed it, is bilingual (French/English).

This is from a number of years ago in Toronto, and is still so powerful. Who wants to make one and then have a burn party with the drop offs! 🤣

This amazing street display in Toronto was created to raise awareness of how the unrealistic images we see in media and advertising can affect the self-esteem of girls and women. Created by NEDIC - National Eating Disorder Information Centre of Canada, it reads: "For years, body image among girls and women has taken a hit from the beauty industry's ubiquitous message that 'skinny is hot' and any other look is 'not'. Now is your chance to send the beauty industry a message. If you think it's time fashion editors and lifestyle advertisers broadened their definition of beauty and inspired us with a range of different shapes and sizes, ditch one or all or your women's magazines through the slot on the other side of this transit shelter."

With 46% of 9 year-old girls 'sometimes' or 'very often' on diets, girls' self-esteem peaking at age 9 and 80% of girls reporting being afraid of becoming fat by age 10, fostering a healthy self image is a big priority for many parents of Mighty Girls. To help make it easier, we've compiled a collection of excellent books on body image for girls from toddlers to teens in our “Body Image” section at http://www.amightygirl.com/books/personal-development/life-challenges?cat=378

For books for parents that address body image issues, including the helpful guide "101 Ways to Help Your Daughter Love Her Body," visit our "Body Image / Self-Esteem" parenting section at http://www.amightygirl.com/parenting/body-image-self-esteem

And, if you are concerned that your Mighty Girl may be showing signs of disordered eating or are seeking books to help spark more discussion around eating disorders, check out the resources for both Mighty Girls and parents in our blog post “Talking with Tweens and Teens About Eating Disorders” at http://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=1597

This season, let's trade food guilt for presence, joy, and connection!

If this feels difficult for you, that's okay. It's a process to unlearn diet culture and come back to ourselves.
Maybe we're the team to support you with this.
Our hope is to help people build intuitive relationships with food and movement and create space for presence and connection in their bodies.

As we head into the holiday season, which of these might be helpful for you to remember:

1. You don't need to earn your meals. You don't need to burn off dessert. Your worth isn't seasonal.

2. Anti-diet reminder: You don't owe anyone commentary on your plate, your body, or your plans.

3. This year I'm choosing joy over restriction, presence over perfection

Now excuse me as I go make myself some hot chocolate, with marshmallows :)

Resharing the Spoon Theory, because we love sharing this one with clients (and using it ourselves!!)

Have you heard of it before? Do you find it helpful? Is it new to you? What to do you think?

We love hearing from you!

In a society that profits from your self doubt, liking yourself is a rebellious act - Caroline Caldwell

Who's down for a rebellious act these days?!
Which one would be your punch line? Or do you have another to share?

1. Choosing to like myself anyway. A quiet revolution
2. Self-respect as rebellion. Watch me
3. The more I like myself, the less the world can sell me who to be
