VON Sakura House Hospice

VON Sakura House Hospice VON Sakura House www.vonsakurahouse.com In September 2009, VON Oxford began providing palliative care at Sakura House residential hospice.

It is an alternative care setting where skilled 24 hour end-of-life care is provided by a team of professionals (including a Palliative Care Physician, Registered Nurses and Personal Support Workers) with the assistance of professionally trained volunteers at no cost to patients or their families. The specialized palliative care provided at Sakura House focuses on living fully in comfort and dignity until the end of life.

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate the volunteers who ignite connection, independence, and community across VON.

Through Meals on Wheels, transportation, Adult Day programs, and companionship, our volunteers help people remain safe, supported, and confident at home.

Thank you to every VON volunteer for the difference you make each day. 💙

An Invitation to Our Community Heroes

VON Oxford invites you to a day dedicated entirely to you—the first responders and healthcare workers who are the heart of care in our community. VON Oxford has been a cornerstone of support in Oxford County for over a century, and we know that those who spend their lives caring for others often carry the heaviest burdens. This is your invitation to step away from the front lines and enter a space of restoration and mutual support.

What the Day Will Focus On:

Wellness & Resiliency: Practical insights into navigating the unique pressures of your profession.
The Secret Impact of Caring: An honest look at the "invisible" toll of service and how to find healing in the work you do.
Peer Connection: A chance to connect with fellow paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and healthcare staff who truly understand your daily experiences.
A Relaxing Sound Journey: Close the day by decompressing with an immersive sound experience designed to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and provide deep mental relaxation.

Event Details:

Location: CAS Building Lower Hall – 712 Peel St., Woodstock
Date: Thursday, May 7th, 2026
Time: 9:30AM – 3:30PM
Cost: Free-of-charge
Refreshments and light lunch included

You are always there for our community. On this day, let VON Oxford be there for you.

Our leader Jo-Anne Poirier announced today that she will step down as VON’s president and CEO by the end of this year. In speaking about Jo-Anne’s strong leadership and accomplishments, Board Chair Monique Porlier said in a news release that “Jo-Anne has led our organization with remarkable commitment, compassion, pragmatism and tenacity for more than a dozen years. As a Board, we are truly grateful for all that she has done for this important organization.” Jo-Anne will work closely with VON’s Board of Directors as they lead a process to find a new president and CEO for our organization.

Our Labyrinth Committee and Garden volunteers are preparing the Sakura House Labyrinth for the 2026 year. The final circuit of our 5 circuit labyrinth is underway. The ground is being burned, next it will be rototilled and raked in order to be ready for this year's mulch. We have another big spring of moving plants, spreading mulch and garden work ahead.

The labyrinth is located on the south lawn. Everyone in our community is welcome to come out and walk the circuits for meditation and peace.

May 2, 2026, is World Labyrinth Day

The Sakura House Easter Holiday meal was held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 at noon. Our cook and 7 volunteers cooked the meal and set up the kitchen for a special lunch. Thanks to the Woodstock Professional Fire fighters Association for supplying the groceries and having McLay Brothers BBQ prepare the turkeys for our meal.

We prepared meals for just under 60 guests, volunteers and staff. This is the most people we have ever served with one of our Holiday Meals.

Thank you to our cook and volunteers for their hard work in the kitchen for this special meal.

We hold holiday meals for our families at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And it was delicious as usual!
