April is BeADonor Month, and we are sharing some of Woodstock Hospital's Hidden Heroes - different teams and their role in organ donation and transplantation.

Hospitalists are central to the assessment and care of patients who proceed to donate their organs and tissue. They support the patient and their family and work closely with the Ontario Health - Trillium Gift of Life Organ and Tissue Donation Coordinators to ensure the gift of life is possible for transplant recipients.

Throughout the week, we will be sharing photos of our volunteers and messages of gratitude from our staff who work alongside them every day. Follow along as we celebrate the positive impact they have on our hospital.

It's National Medical Laboratory Week, a time to recognize our incredible Lab Services team for the essential role they play in every patient's healthcare journey.

Did you know that medical decisions regarding diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission, and discharge are often based on lab results? In 2025, Woodstock Hospital's Lab professionals processed over 700,000 test results, almost 10,000 pathology cases, AND they prepared and issued 5,728 blood products. Pretty impressive!

Not just this week, but every day, we are grateful for our lab professionals and the vital work that you do. Thank you!

For more than a decade, Dr. Ian Hons has been a friendly and familiar face at Woodstock Hospital, caring for patients, supporting colleagues, and contributing to the growth of healthcare in Oxford County.

Now, he is stepping into a new role as Chief of Staff. “The Chief of Staff is appointed by the Board of Trust to support physicians and uphold strong clinical standards,” Dr. Hons explains. “The role also helps guide quality and safety initiatives and supports long-term planning for the organization.”

WH currently has a broad range of physicians with privileges across specialties, including family medicine, surgery, pathology, psychiatry, and more. The Chief of Staff serves as a key link between the medical staff and hospital administration, fostering collaboration and alignment across the organization. "I look forward to advancing our culture of continuous learning by welcoming medical educators and trainees, while also supporting physician education and quality improvement initiatives, including multidisciplinary rounds to review complex cases."

Enbridge Gas has recognized Woodstock Hospital for excellence in energy conservation with a $100,000 incentive cheque. Through our 2025 Boiler Plant Optimization project, we integrated advanced controls to improve the efficiency of our heating system. This work reduces the amount of natural gas needed to operate the hospital, while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for patients and staff.

This 2025 project is anticipated to lead to 2026 energy savings of:
• 220,502 m³ of natural gas
• 403 tonnes of CO₂e emissions

That’s equivalent to taking approximately 90 passenger vehicles off the road for a year, or the annual energy use of about 50 Canadian homes.

This project was made possible through the collaboration of Enbridge, Woodstock Hospital’s Capital Projects team, WalterFedy Engineering, AIM Industrial, and Honeywell.
