Thank you, Rebecca and Elder Eric G. Martin, for joining us today to lead a traditional Smudging Ceremony in our hospital courtyard.

Organized by our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) Committee, staff were invited to release negative energy, welcome healing, and take a moment to pause, reflect, and learn more about Indigenous culture and traditions.

We remain committed to learning from Indigenous voices and continuing our journey of Truth and Reconciliation.

Centered on You.

That’s the tagline for Woodstock Hospital’s new three-year strategic plan, because you helped shape it.

Through feedback from patients, families, staff, community members, and partners, we have developed a renewed mission, vision, values, and values statement, along with four strategic pillars.

Every initiative we undertake will fall under one of these pillars and be captured in our tactical plan, which serves as our roadmap for measuring success.

If you haven't yet, read the new plan here: https://www.woodstockhospital.ca/strategic-plan/

Proceeds from the Woodstock Hospital Foundation online 50/50 draw will help support new fluoroscopy units used in our Diagnostic Imaging Department. Purchase your tickets today at www.woodstock5050.ca

A common misconception is that hospital equipment is funded by the province. While the province funds hospital operating costs, it doesn’t cover the purchase of vital equipment. That’s where community support (like yours) makes all the difference.

Right now, proceeds from our 50/50 draw are helping purchase new fluoroscopy units for Woodstock Hospital. These provide advanced imaging technology that gives real-time X-ray views for a range of procedures, from digestive tract studies to joint injections. These upgrades will ensure our team can continue delivering exceptional care and meet increasing patient needs.

Today, we celebrated our amazing Clinical Externs who have spent the past few months learning alongside our frontline teams. These nursing students, who have completed at least one year of their studies, gained valuable hands-on experience in Complex Care, Medicine, General Surgery, and Inpatient Rehab, with additional shadow shifts in Maternal Child/Women’s Health.

Our staff were proud to mentor these future nurses and appreciated the energy and support they brought to our hospital.

We wish them the very best as they continue their education and look forward to seeing many of them return as RNs and RPNs in the years ahead!

In late May and early June, we hosted two groups of 12 first-year medical students from Western University's Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry for Discovery Week. Each group spent one week learning from our hospital teams and participating in community activities. The overall goal is to show these future doctors what life would be like working and living in our community.

Schulich’s Discovery Week initiative has proven to be effective in attracting and retaining skilled physicians to Oxford County.

Dr. Sarah Davies, now a practicing family physician in Woodstock, is often referred to as a Discovery Week success story at the students’ orientation.

“I participated in Discovery Week in 2017 and came back a few times as a learner, both with the Hospitalist team and with family physicians in the community,” says Dr. Davies. “Woodstock stood out to me as a tight-knit community. The physicians across different specialties all knew each other and were genuinely friendly.”

Today, our hospital got a burst of colour and some uplifting messages!

Kids from the City of Woodstock’s summer camps stopped by to fill our sidewalks and courtyard with beautiful artwork and positive messages for patients, visitors, and staff to enjoy.

A big thank you to our Wellness Team for organizing this heartwarming visit (and for treating our young artists to a cool snack as a thank-you!).

Your creativity brightened our day.
