Exciting News!

As of March 1, 2020, Wildrose Physiotherapy will be moving under the umbrella of Yellowknife Physiotherapy (www.ykpt.ca).

As some of you may know, I work a full time job during the week and am also attending school full time, pursuing a PhD in Public Health. This has resulted in less time available for the administrative tasks required to operate Wildrose Physiotherapy effectively. Moving to a formal clinic space with administrative support will allow me to still offer services, while also being more responsive to appointment booking requests.

In order to cover the costs of administrative supports, use of clinical space and booking system, the fee structure will be increasing.

This transition will occur over the next two weeks, so please continue to contact Wildrose Physiotherapy by email (wildrosephysiotherapy@gmail.com), Facebook Messenger, or phone until the changes are finalized.

We provide Physiotherapy services within a boutique clinic with a low volume approach to personalized treatment for sports and rehab injuries.

These past few days have been challenging and there is a lot of uncertainty in our lives right now. In order to protect the clients of Wildrose Physiotherapy and to follow the recommendations of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, I will be placing in-person appointments on hold indefinitely. However, I understand the importance of continuing to provide care, and am in the process of registering for a Telerehab program. There will be an update about how this will look.

Please note that response time to emails and phone calls may be longer than usual, as I try to balance my work with Wildrose Physiotherapy and in the Health and Social Services system.

If you have any questions, you can contact the clinic at wildrosephysiotherapy@gmail.com or 867.688.8458.

Stay safe everyone, and remember to wash your hands (FYI: I hum “Basket Case” by Green Day to make sure I wash for at least 20 seconds).

Best,

- Kaeleigh

Gusset Grippers is a pelvic floor physio and comedian out of the UK, and she is hilarious. She is a great advocate for pelvic floor health. Check out her page for more tidbits and for some laughs.

Today, I am mostly making this face. I am SICK of commercial companies being allowed to LIE to women to sell stuff. It’s NOT “totally normal” to leak; a little bit of wee WILL stop you being you; and it’s NOT just “an oops moment”, it’s totally devastating and limits women’s lives; and “sensitive bladder” is not a thing, it’s not a diagnosis, it’s marketing nonsense designed to make you feel like you don’t have incontinence. Leaking is never normal, no matter how old you are, whether you’ve had kids or not, you should always be able to control your p*e, poo and farts. Leaking is always manageable, usually curable and you DON’t have to put up with it. ! Pads are a useful tool, but they are far from the answer and if you are buying them you should be coming to clinic for an assessment and help. There’s nothing wrong with using a pad, but there is a lot wrong with gas lighting women for profit. The only pad company I’ve seen that takes prevention seriously is who make plastic free pads which are great for stress incontinence, and compostable! There are a bunch of gadgets for sale too which have no evidence base at ALL, and I’m tired of seeing women buy expensive nonsense. There are some really good products out there, but please get an assessment first to make sure you are not wasting your money and time and hope. I’m really, really cross about the shoddy marketing that is allowed in this area - it’s at best patronising and at worst causing harm by perpetuating myths about conditions which hurt women. It’s simple - are cheap to teach, free to do, work for the majority of women and the only side effect is an improved or**sm. I’m speaking at the Scottish Parliament soon and will be bringing this up, I’ really very angry that we don’t promote evidence based information properly. So, are you going to ? Get on with it! Go on!

Diastasis (separation) of the abdominal muscles is common during and after pregnancy. This infographic summaries what we currently know about ab separation.

We do not know (yet) what factors, if any, exist to prevent DRA.

Potentially considering the suggested risk factors e.g. constipation or poor lifting techniques may have some influence. However some women are likely to be genetically predisposed meaning that there is nothing they can do to prevent DRA & it ISN'T THEIR FAULT.

Self-management & behavioural factors have a role to play in recovery (Dufour et al. 2019)
