The Action Group Board would like to share our Winter Solstice greetings with you. May you find the time to dance in the returning light, see the magic in the stillness of this blanket of snow, breathe slowly, and share joy with the ones you love.

"... This is the solstice, the still point in the sun;
Its cusp and midnight;
The year's threshold and unlocking when the past
let's go and becomes the future..."
~Margaret Atwood~

A big Wednesday Wahoo!! to our collaborator on the the Text Me Healthy research project, Dr. Anna Singleton, University of Sydney (Australia). Dr. Singleton has recently been awarded the Early Career Researcher of the Year by the International Psychosocial Oncology Society (IPOS).

The award ceremony took place in November at the IPOS World Congress in November.

The Action Group could not think of a more deserving person for this award and know intimately, her commitment to supporting women with cancer. We are very grateful for her guidance, patience, knowledge and the shared laughter over the years getting the Text Me Healthy project on its feet.

The Action Group would like to extend a huge Thank You, Mashi Cho and Merci to the staff, Angela Martin and Student Council at Ecole Sir John Franklin in Yellowknife. Your lovely donation of $550 will go far in helping women in the NWT experiencing a cancer diagnosis.

We appreciate you reaching out to us to assist you in your display for Breast Cancer Awareness last month. You are an amazing group of young people to make this campaign a part of your calendar at school and creating awareness. Cancer does not just affect the individual diagnosed, it impacts family, friends and the community around the individual. The more we know about early screening, how to support individuals, treatment options in clear language... it all goes towards easing the making a difference for that individual.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian women. In 2024, it was estimated that on average, 84 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day. It is expected that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.

If you are between the ages of 45 and 74, have never had breast or ovarian cancer, and are not currently experiencing any breast-related symptoms, you can self-refer to the Breast Screening Program with no referral needed. Just call us to book your screening appointment.

Take the time to find out more about breast cancer this month.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a chance to clear up common myths and spark real conversations about who is at risk. Breast cancer doesn’t only affect older women. Men, younger people, and those with no family history can face a diagnosis too. By breaking down these misconceptions, we can promote early awareness, empower people to take action, and open the door to more informed conversations about breast health. This month, we invite you to learn the facts, understand your risks, and take steps toward protecting your breast health with our campaign Beyond the Stereotypes: Aware of Risks. Aware of Myths. https://buff.ly/QFl1DfO
