If you’re wondering how to support someone who’s made it through the darkest moments, here are four things they want you to know:

1. Talk about it, don’t avoid it.
Su***de isn’t a bad word. By talking openly, you’re helping erase the stigma and showing you are a safe person to turn to.

2. Be patient.
Healing doesn’t happen overnight. Some days are heavy, some feel okay. Don’t take it personally, your steady presence matters more than you think.

3. Listen don’t fix.
You don’t need to have magic answers. You don’t need to “fix” them. You just need to be there, listen without judgment, and remind them they are loved.

4. Shut down stigma.
Be the voice that says: “You are worthy. You are needed. You are loved.”

Supporting someone through their healing journey starts with compassion and real conversations. Let’s change the narrative around su***de together.

Too many men in Canada are struggling in silence and it’s costing lives. According to Movember’s 2025 Real Face of Men’s Health report:

- 72% of men rarely talk about their mental health
- One in five Canadian men say they have no close friends they could turn to
- Su***de remains a leading cause of death among men under 50 in Canada

This isn’t just a men’s issue, it’s a public health issue and as a recent Vancouver Sun op-ed reminds us: “It’s time to make men’s health a national priority.”

What can you do?
- Start conversations with the men in your life
- Normalize check-ins about mental health
- Share resources that can save lives

- Call or text 9-8-8 any time day or night

The CMHA National 2024 State of Mental Health report paints a stark picture: mental health in Canada is now three times worse than before the pandemic. Yet our system is fundamentally underfunded. Provinces and territories spend just 6.3% of their health budgets on mental health, far below the expert-recommended 12%.

That underinvestment has real consequences: 2.5 million Canadians cannot access needed mental-health, addictions, or substance-use services, 57% of young adults (18-24) showing early signs of mental illness, say that cost is a major barrier to accessing care and a concerning 38% of Indigenous peoples rate their mental health as “poor” or “fair”.

But this report doesn’t stop at what it is wrong. It offers hope and highlights a strategic roadmap and promising provincial/territorial solutions from universal mental health care, mobile crisis teams.
