Some unfortunate new findings on headache disorders…

-Migraine is the leading cause of disability worldwide among women aged 18-50 years.
-Global lifetime prevalence of headache disorders are estimated at 67%.
- Major causes of productivity loss, work absences, and short-term disability.
Headache disorders and su***de risk.
- The link between headache disorders and su***de is unclear
-Complex relationship with psychiatric conditions; headaches may worsen psychiatric symptoms.
- Chronic pain is consistently associated with increased su***de risk, even when accounting for psychiatric issues.
- Disruptions in serotonin pathways and increased inflammatory cytokines may contribute to both headaches and psychiatric symptoms.
- Over 55% of respondents in the U.S. Cluster Headache Survey reported suicidal thoughts; 2% attempted su***de.
- Individuals with headaches were twice as likely to attempt su***de and 1.4 times as likely to die by su***de compared to those without headaches.
-Posttraumatic headache had the highest risk for su***de attempts and completions.
