Did you hear us on CBC this morning? Members of our team made the trek to Sydney yesterday to stand with all public sector and non-profit workers affected by these far-reaching cuts.
Due to the Meta news ban, we cannot link to the recorded radio broadcast, but a link is posted on our website, under the "Media Centre" section: https://dkmchc.ca/
Our provincial government has crafted a message that these cuts are necessary to uphold core services like healthcare. Our team serves as an example that it is not as black and white as that, and healthcare teams will feel the impact too.
For example, 17 seniors' programs are slated to be cut, including 2 to be eliminated. This could have profoundly negative impacts on community wellbeing. ( Full list of cuts here: https://www.halifaxexaminer.ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Grant-Reductions-Media-Feb-24-Final.pdf)
Like many in attendance at this rally, we believe all of this can be avoided. Last year, the HST was reduced by 1%. If that 1% reduction were reversed, it would generate $300 million in revenue, which would negate all cuts proposed.
We will continue to work for our community , and we encourage everyone affected by these budget cuts to reach out to the elected officials below:
