HUSBAND AXES WIFE TO DEATH

By Elfi Mwale Shampande

A 31-year-old man of Lavushimanda District in Muchinga Province has axed his wife to death for trying to divorce him.

The 27-year-old woman, identified as Idah Mutale, was axed at the back of her neck while she was having lunch with her two children aged 8 and 3. She sustained a fatal deep cut.

Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale says, investigations indicate that the deceased had marital disputes and misunderstanding with her husband identified as Kennedy Kabwe in their one-year-old marriage.

On April 26, 2024, the couple is alleged to have had the usual marital disputes which made the wife to tell her father to return the dowry so that the marriage can be ended. Her father promised to give back the dowry today, Sunday, April 28, 2024.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, around 13:00 hours, while she was eating nshima with her two children, her husband asked if she still maintained her decision of ending the marriage to which she responded positively.

It is alleged that Mr. Kabwe immediately got an axe and hacked his wife on the back of the neck and ran away.

The eight-year-old child quickly informed her grandfather about the incident who later alerted Police officers at Lavushmanda Police Post.

The victim was rushed to Mpumba Mini Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her body was deposited in the same Hospital mortuary waiting for postmortem examination

A manhunt for the suspect has been launched.

I am so proud of the work we did around Vespers Shimunzhila.

On 5th of May 2020 I wrote ….

THANK YOU ZAMBIA FOR SPEAKING FOR VESPERS

On behalf of Voice of Vespers (VOV), and on behalf of the Shimunzhila family we would like to express our gratitude to everyone who voiced out their pain over the past nearly two years.

It's been a lonely journey for the parents and family of Vessy without their pillar and anchor.

The K500,000 plus interest consent settlement means nothing to the family because it can never replace their daughter. However, it is a gesture of admission of guilt on the part of government and this will help the family bring closure to this matter.

We wish the government had settled this matter long before this. We hope no other student or citizens will ever die in the hands of reckless and overzealous officers who are supposed to be custodians of the law.

A special thanks to The Law Association of ZAMBIA (LAZ) for their tireless efforts. A warm gratitude to the University of ZAMBIA students (including all the Universities and Colleges that participated), union leaders and even lectures who stood by Vespers even in death.

This Victory is not the work of one person. It is the voice of us all.

I would like to personally thank my fellow VOVs (Mampi, Wezi, Lucy, Kantu, BFlow (Brian) and Lovemore) for travelling to Namwala to meet the family and contributing to the family without publicity of the enormous gifts. It was a long trip with great sacrifice from each one. Thank you my friends and you were just the best people to be with in this battle. We were misunderstood at times, threatened and sometimes sidelined. But together we banded for Vessy.

For us now our focus is whose voice shall we speak for next.

God will guide us.

Thank you very much.

May God bless Zambia.

ELECTROCUTION INCIDENT AT UNIVERSITY OF ZAMBIA: POLICE RESPONSE

April 7, 2024-On the evening of April 6, 2024, at approximately 23:40 hours Chelston Police Station received a distressing report of electrocution from Ms. Mwanja Daka, aged 29, residing at house 86/24 Ng’ombe Chimulambe Street. Ms. Daka, a registered nurse at the University of Zambia clinic, reported a tragic incident involving Ms. Margret Chibesakunda, aged 22, a third-year student studying Public Administration at the University of Zambia.
According to the report, Ms. Chisabekunda was fatally electrocuted while attempting to plug her phone for charging. The incident occurred around 21:30 hours at October Block 2, Room 23, of the University of Zambia Great East Road Campus. Ms. Chibesakunda sustained severe burns on her neck, right elbow, and leg. Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to her injuries.
Following the unfortunate event, there was a spontaneous demonstration by University of Zambia students, obstructing the Great East Road with stones and drums. In response, police officers swiftly intervened to restore public order. The students were urged to mourn within the campus premises rather than disrupting public order. Fortunately, the students complied with the advice and returned to the University grounds.
The deceased's body was transferred to the University of Zambia clinic and subsequently deposited at the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
The Zambia Police Service extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Margret Chibesakunda during this difficult time. Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the electrocution incident is ongoing, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served.

Rae Hamoonga
POLICE PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER.

THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMEONE AHEAD OF YOU IN LIFE... BE HUMBLE

Amitabh Bachchan (a bollywood actor) says:
At the peak of my career, I was once travelling by plane. The passenger next to me was elderly gentleman dressed in a simple shirt and pants.

He appeared to be middle class, and well educated.

Other passengers perhaps recognising who I was, but this gentleman appeared to be unconcerned of my presence... He was reading his paper, looking out of the window, and when tea was served, he sipped it quietly.

Trying to strike a conversation with him, I smiled. The man courteously smiled back and said, 'Hello'.

We got talking and I brought up the subject of cinema and movies and asked : "Do you watch films?"

The man replied, 'Oh, very few. I did see one many years ago.'

I mentioned that I worked in the movie industry.

The man replied :
"oh, that’s nice. What do you do?"

I replied :
"I am an actor"

The man nodded, 'Oh, that's wonderful!'
And that was it...

When we landed, I held out my hand and said, " It was good to travel with you. By the way, my name is Amitabh Bachchan!'

The man shook my hand and smiled, "Thank you... nice to have met you...I am *J. R. D. Tata!"*

(Mr TATA is a billionaire industrialist that owns TATA Group of Companies).

I learned on that day that no matter how big you think you are, there is always someone bigger than you. Be humble, it costs nothing.

B E H A V I O R is always Greater Than Knowledge,

Because In Life There Are Many Situations Where Knowledge Fails, But Behavior Can Handle almost
E V E R Y T H I N G!

By Elfi Mwale Shampande

A 44-year-old man of Lusaka's Meanwood Ndeke Phase One area has killed himself after stabbing his wife to death.

It is believed that the couple had some longstanding marital dispute that led to the husband’s gruesome murder of his wife.

Mike Ilishebo, 44 strangled his 35-year-old wife Valerie Franco on Wednesday 3 April 2024 around 16:00 hours using an electric power adapter cable and subsequently stabbing her in the stomach with a kitchen knife.
