Blossoming Tree Yoga - Carla Cooper

Blossoming Tree Yoga - Carla Cooper Yoga Classes, Mini-retreats, 1:2:1's. Northants based. Carla Cooper - qualified yoga instructor. Hello, I’m Carla, a yoga teacher with over 30 years of practice.

My journey into yoga began as a personal exploration, and over time, it has evolved into a deep passion for sharing the practice as a tool for health and happiness. I completed a British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course in 2019, and a 300-hour Yoga Alliance Accredited Teacher Training in 2022. Since then I have continued to train adding certifications in pranayama, trauma-informed restorative yoga, somatic movement, and yoga Nidra. My Hatha classes respect the origins of yoga, and offer an holistic approach to flexibility, relaxation and stress reduction. Through a combination of breathing, movement, and meditation, I aim to help students cultivate a more balanced mind, breath, spirit connection and release underlying tension and stress in the body and nervous system. My classes are informative, and inclusive, and offer a relaxed and easy-going way to escape the daily busyness of our lives. If you would like to know more, then do get in touch. 🙏🏼

📱 It’s all over the media at the moment — how constant phone use and scrolling are linked to shorter attention spans and fragmented focus.

What’s talked about less is the flip side.

🧘‍♀️ There’s strong evidence that a sustained yoga practice is associated with measurable improvements in attention and awareness. Studies show better focus and processing speed in people who practise yoga regularly.

That’s because yoga trains attention in multiple ways:
• Postures build embodied focus and present-moment awareness
• Breathwork steadies the nervous system and attention
• Meditation & mindfulness strengthen our ability to notice distraction and return
• Consistency over time helps retrain the brain away from constant stimulation

In a world that pulls our attention everywhere, yoga offers a way to gently rebuild focus, awareness, and steadiness.

In this week’s yoga classes we focused on steadiness: using a calm steady breath, grounding and a slow, mindful Hatha practice to cultivate steadiness in the body and mind. Through gentle twists, folds and well-aligned postures, we explore how creating steadiness on the mat can support us when we step off the mat.

Hatha yoga encourages postures that are both steady and comfortable, helping build strength, balance and presence without forcing or striving. It’s a quiet, supportive practice for anyone seeking a bit more calm and grounding.

If life feels a little wobbly right now, and you want a bit more calm and steadiness you’d be very welcome to join us.

Classes are in Thornby Village Hall on Tuesday evening 7-8pm and
Welford Youth & Community Centre on Thursday 7-8pm

New 5-week block starting week commencing 2nd February (no class week commencing 16th February).

To be honest I feel like 2016 was a blink ago, but jumping on the “2016 vs now” thing…I realise I have almost no memory of 2016, and barely any photos.

This was probably due to the deep grief after losing my dad.

We were also mid-renovation, where going to the loo at night involved going downstairs, outside, round the house and in through another door…
(shortly followed by losing the bathroom altogether and moving in with Mum).

While hunting for photos, I found an old memory stick full of affirmations and notes on how to beat anxiety and depression, weight loss plans, and how to quit drinking.

So past-me was clearly trying to find a better path —
I just didn’t have the tools yet.

Since then, yoga has quietly done its thing.

Not by fixing my life.
But by teaching me how to be with it.

I’m proud to have given up the booze (and in great company as Brad Pitt is celebrating the same)!
I've made friends with my emotions (even the awkward ones).
Learned to breathe when things wobble.
And now I get to live in a lovely house that Steve built — with a working bathroom, which still feels like a minor miracle 🚿

Presence matters, but so does noticing how far you’ve come.

I'm very grateful for yoga, grateful for the people, and excited about what’s next.

If life is handing you lemons right now — 🍋
yoga won’t make them disappear, but it will give you a way to work with them.

Before Christmas, I put on a couple of extra classes exploring somatic movement — a slow, mindful practice that invites us to listen to the body with curiosity, allowing movement to arise in a way that feels intuitive and supportive.

Our bodies hold such deep wisdom, yet we rarely pause long enough to truly listen or sense how they want to move and ease. This practice creates space for that listening, and it can be deeply healing — especially for those living with pain or long-term fatigue.

This feedback from one of the sessions beautifully captures what can unfold when we slow down, breathe, and listen deeply 💛

It’s been lovely to be back on the mat this week ❄️🧘‍♀️

Despite the surprise snowfall last night making my journey from Welford a little more “yoga adventure” than usual, we arrived, we breathed, and we grounded together.

Our classes this week were all about gently reconnecting — feeling the support of the ground beneath us, coming home to our bodies, and softening into the rhythm of the breath. We explored plenty of calming breathing practices to help down-regulate the nervous system, alongside asanas chosen to support immunity and give a little love to our digestive systems after the festive season’s… generous indulgences 🎄🍪

And finally, a very special thank you to the children playing in the park for resisting the urge to throw snowballs at the window during savasana — your restraint did not go unnoticed 😄🙏

As the year comes to a close, I’m feeling a deep sense of gratitude for all that has been shared throughout these months — the movement, the stillness, the laughter, and the quiet moments of connection.

This year has been a beautiful reminder of the power of sangha — community — where unique individuals come together to practice, support, and inspire one another. Each of you brings something special into the space, and together that creates something truly meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their yoga journey with me. For your presence, your openness, and your willingness to show up just as you are. Practicing alongside you continues to enrich and shape my own journey in ways I’m endlessly grateful for.

I also want to acknowledge my teachers and the wider yoga community whose wisdom and encouragement flow quietly through my teaching.

As we step toward a new year, I’m excited to continue this shared path with you — carrying forward all that we’ve learned, and welcoming what’s still to come ✨🙏

Happy Christmas everyone 🎄 💓 🧘‍♂️✨️🥳🙏

One of my favourite little moments from recent classes has been the sharing of tea bag tags — tiny messages that somehow landed exactly where they were needed.

What struck me most was how perfectly each message seemed to suit the person who received it. Unique individuals, all sharing the same space, the same practice — yet each walking their own path.

Yoga has a quiet way of reminding us that we are both deeply individual and beautifully connected ✨
