On average, men need at least 1,500 calories and women need at least 1,200 calories per day. If you eat fewer calories than you need, you will be 100% hungry.

I don't recommend a low-calorie diet that cuts down on necessary daily calories. The low calorie diet replacing all of your meals with smoothies will bring you disappointing results in your weight loss goal.

Your body may go into starvation mode, in my opinion, which is good for survival but not for achieving the weight loss goal. Smoothies are a great way to get additional nutrients on a daily basis, but they aren't complete for your body's needs.

If you replace all your meals with smoothies, this could cause deficiencies in your body. Some deficiencies can be avoided by consuming certain vegetables and fruits. For example, iron and calcium deficiencies can be reduced by consuming a good amount of cabbage in your green smoothies.

Sgoutas is a health coach (not a registered dietitian) who created the 21 Day Shake Diet to help clients lose weight. Her e-book, The Smoothie Diet, contains 36 smoothie recipes, grocery lists, and a three-week program explaining which smoothies to prepare each day. It also offers a "detox" plan with recipes and instructions to replace three meals a day with smoothies for three days.

In this meal plan, you will make and drink two smoothies a day as meal replacements. Your third meal is up to you, but for best results, it should be lower in calories. Sgoutas also suggests one "cheat day" per week, but includes a list of recommended foods for this day. It also says it's okay to repeat the 21-day cycle every time you want to lose weight.
