Hey, Katalistas! Did you know that consuming an adequate amount of water on a daily basis keeps you from being dehydrated? 🥤💦

Well, you should be. Dehydration occurs when your body loses more fluid than you take in. When the normal water content of your body is reduced, it upsets the balance of minerals (salts and sugar) in your body, which affects the way it functions. Water makes up over two-thirds of the healthy human body. Always drink water immediately if you feel thirsty. Remember – if you feel thirsty, you're already dehydrated. You may see the symptoms of dehydration improve in as little as five to 10 minutes. If you think your symptoms of dehydration are severe, don't hesitate to seek help, and drink your water, B!

Hey, Katalistas! Did you know that consuming adequate amount of water on a daily basis is essential for maximizing your physical performance? 🥤💦

Well, you should be. According to Healthline (n.d), if you don’t stay hydrated, your physical performance can suffer. This is particularly important during intense exercise or high heat. Dehydration can have a noticeable effect if you lose as little as 2% of your body’s water content. However, it isn’t uncommon for athletes to lose as much as 6–10% of their water weight via sweat. This can lead to altered body temperature control, reduced motivation, and increased fatigue. It can also make exercise feel much more difficult, both physically and mentally.

Optimal hydration has been shown to prevent this from happening, and it may even reduce the oxidative stress that occurs during high intensity exercise. This isn’t surprising when you consider that muscle is about 80% water. If you exercise intensely and tend to sweat, staying hydrated can help you perform at your absolute best.

🔎You may have heard that you should drink eight glasses of water a day to stay healthy, and staying hydrated helps all your internal organs, including your heart.

🔎In fact, a study published in September 2022 in European Heart Journal suggests that maintaining good hydration can slow down or even prevent changes within the heart that lead to heart failure. The study tracked nearly 12,000 middle-aged adults for 25 years, and it found that study participant who was adequately hydrated had lower levels of sodium in their system 25 years later. High sodium levels are a known precursor to heart failure.

According to WebMD our body is composed of about 70% water, and the functions of these bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, transportation of nutrients, and maintenance of body temperature. "Through the posterior pituitary gland, your brain communicates with your kidneys and tells it how much water to excrete as urine or hold onto for reserves." When you're low on fluids, the brain triggers the body's thirst mechanism. And unless you are taking medications that make you thirsty.

🔍 Many students have their choice of whether they drink water or not. Based on the survey, many students do not drink plenty of water because of their addiction to sugary drinks. Millennials have their interests in life, whether in their hobbies or activities. Sometimes they love to go to the coffee or milk tea shop and forget to drink water. Even the players drink Gatorade instead of water. That is why we are here to remind you fellow Katalistas to Drink Your Water, B! 💦🥤

Drink Your Water, B is a Social and Behavioral Change Communication Strategy that aims to educate, spark a conversation, and promote behaviors and attitudes in drinking enough water.

🔍The minimum amount of water that doctors and other medical professionals advise us to drink each day is eight glasses or more. Moreover, drinking water regularly will benefit our bodies greatly because it has many natural health benefits. The best thing we can do for our bodies is to drink water regularly because our bodies can benefit from it in many satisfying ways.
