7 Steps to releasing Anxiety!!!
Here is my simple 7 step process to releasing Anxiety from the physical body through Somatic Healing Therapy!
Step 1. Say it out loud, " I am anxious" or "I am anxiety" whichever for more true to you when you say it out loud.
Step 2. Identify the sensation in the body and where you feel the sensation in your body. Is it tingling in the arms, shaking hands, jitteriness, tightness in the chest, headache?
Step 3. How intense is the feeling from 0 to 10?
Give it a number from 0 to 10 (0 being the least and 10 being the most).
Step 4. Give it a colour, envision the sensation in the body as a colour to make it tangible. Throughout the process focus on the feeling and the colour. If the sensation moves location the colour may also change, this is an intuitive process.
Step 5. Embrace the physical sensations in your body, feel, breath, envision the colour and sit with the sensation. In order to heal we first need to feel!
Step 6. Intensify the sensations in the body, turn it up as high as you can. If you were at a 5 try and get the sensation to a 10. Remember to keep breathing and keep saying "I am anxious". You can also try, "I am Anxiety", " I am scared" and see which feels truest for you.
Step 7. Release. Once you've intensified the sensation and held it for as long as you can you may let go and continue to breathe through any residual sensation for a few minutes.
Throughout this process you may feel a shift. The energy and sensation may change and move to a different part of the body. This is a great sign, this is the energy of anxiety moving through the body and eventually it will fully release. The longer you can do this process and the more you can allow yourself to feel the bigger release you will have.
Don't feel bad if you found this process difficult, it can be difficult and confronting to allow yourself to feel sensations and emotions you've been trying to avoid and suppress for so long or perhaps you cant access them at all, this is also quite normal to start with, keep trying!
