✅Parts of Removable Partial Denture (RPD)
* Major Connector
* Minor Connector
* Direct Retainers (Clasps)
* Indirect Retainers
* Rests
* Prosthetic Base (Saddle)
* Denture Teeth
🔹 Functions of Each Part
❇️1. Major Connector: Principal structure that unites all components of RPD.
Function:
* Provides rigidity and stability to the prosthesis.
* Distributes forces evenly across the arch.
* Connects components on one side of the arch to the other.
❇️2. Minor Connector: Connecting link between major connector and other components (clasps, rests, etc.).
Function:
* Transfers functional stress to supporting structures.
* Provides stability by connecting prosthetic parts to the major connector.
❇️3. Direct Retainers (Clasps): Components that engage abutment teeth to retain the prosthesis.
Function:
* Prevent dislodgment of the prosthesis during functional movements.
* Provides retention through mechanical interlocking or frictional resistance.
❇️4. Indirect Retainers: Components placed opposite the direct retainer to prevent rotation of the RPD.
Function:
* Prevents tipping or displacement of the distal extension base.
* Provides support and stability.
❇️5. Rests: Rigid extensions that contact the prepared surfaces of abutment teeth.
Function:
* Distributes occlusal forces to teeth and supporting structures.
* Provides vertical support and prevents tissue damage.
❇️6. Prosthetic Base (Saddle): Part of RPD that supports the artificial teeth and covers the edentulous area.
Function:
* Provides support and stability for artificial teeth.
* Transmits occlusal forces to underlying tissues.
❇️7. Denture Teeth: Artificial teeth mounted on the prosthetic base.
Function:
* Restores aesthetics, phonetics, and masticatory function.
* Provides occlusal contact and support.
