I am sinking, my body simultaneously expanding into weightlessness and contracting into heaviness. A feeling of release, letting go, sinking into the presence of being present. Yet nowhere or nothing to be present to.
A distant whisper of silence, space shifting. I am aware that I am neither here nor there. I am aware that presence is calling me. There is no thinking, no desire to. Only being present in the presence. My body begins to breathe again.
The Medicine Drumming has ended.
I come away refreshed, revitalized, feeling somehow more whole. This magical world of medicine drumming empowers; I feel more capable. I have more compassion for myself. This is what I experience when I receive a Medicine Drumming and what I hope for others when I give a Medicine Drumming.
In their work together, the Medicine Drum and the Medicine Drummer are conduits for the healing power of Higher Consciousness. Barriers of resistance gently evaporate as the sound and vibration move through our energy field, releasing blockages, creating space for a new perspective, for greater possibility.
The feeling of having laid a burden down, released an unidentified tension, of being able to stand taller and breathe better often occurs.
Each medicine drumming is a unique experience. Visions, images, messages can come to the recipient. Just as often, what feels like a deep sleep occurs. The recipient can come back to conscious awareness, remembering nothing after the first few drumbeats. Some share that while they remember nothing, they have this profound feeling of having traveled somewhere far away. Some are thrilled to simply have had a very deep rest.
The recipient often feels that the Medicine Drummer physically moved around them, standing in different positions, intentionally sending the sound and vibration to a specific area in the recipient’s body. While this could be the case, I, as many other Medicine Drummers I know, never change positions, even though the recipient is certain they have. The sound and vibration merge with the lifeforce which directs their healing power where it is most needed.
The drummer becomes a Medicine Drummer through training, skill development, and alignment with Higher Consciousness as a Healer. Their drum becomes a Medicine Drum through ceremony as the drummer and drum connect and align as co-healers in service to humanity.
The Medicine Drumming begins. At first a slow melodious pace. Waves of vibration circle, ascending and descending, overlapping, enveloping all present. The lone drummer merges into the sound, rhythm, and vibration, no longer separate from the drum. In the distance the sounds of many medicine drums. Whispers and echoes of chanting. The room is thick with the smell of sage. As the healing medicine builds from the drumming the air becomes thick as though a mist has moved into the space.
The drumming abruptly ends. No sound. No movement. Stillness. Utter Stillness. And then it is gone. The people slowly begin to come back to conscious awareness. The drummer moves from non-ordinary reality back to ordinary reality, shakes their arms, takes a few deep breaths, and says Thank you to all the unseen helpers and The Spirit That Moves Through All Things.
