Como plotting ambitious January move for Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee has had a difficult start to the season, but he continues to attract interest from Serie A.

Rasmus Hojlund and Zirkzee were both the subjects of interest from Italian clubs in the summer, owing to their promising stints at Atalanta and Bologna respectively.

United were keen to offload Hojlund, eventually agreeing a deal with Napoli. However, they turned down approaches for Zirkzee, as the Dutch striker impressed as a wide playmaker under Ruben Amorim.

However, this season, Amorim has largely overlooked the 24-year-old, who is yet to start a game. And a Serie A club is ready to test United’s resolve in January.

Como eyeing January swoop for Zirkzee

According to Corriere Como (via Sport Witness), Como are interested in Zirkzee.

Under one of the richest ownerships around Europe, Como are considering making an ambitious push for the signature of the United star, who joined the Red Devils in a deal worth £36.5 million last summer.

It is claimed Zirkzee “would be a driving force for future growth” at Como. The versatile attacker is seen as an ideal fit for Cesc Fabregas’ side.

The Italian outlet suggests a January move is a possibility for the Netherlands international, as Como’s interest in him is “concrete”.

Zirkzee has been compared to Cunha

In the summer, United resisted offers for the technically gifted player, as he is very highly rated by several key figures at the club.

It is believed “some high up think Zirkzee has the ceiling of new signing Matheus Cunha.”

However, the ex-Bayern Munich sensation is unlikely to reach his full potential at Old Trafford under current circumstances.

Even Cunha is yet to show his best form since moving to United from Wolverhampton Wanderers, and is yet to score or assist for his new club.

PSG had stood firm against Barcelona's early push before squandering late chances, but substitute Ramos ended up having the final say at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barcelona started strongly and could have taken the lead 14 minutes in after Lamine Yamal set Ferran Torres in behind with an outside-of-the-boot throughball, but after rounding the goalkeeper, he was denied by Illia Zabarnyi in front of the goal line.

Just five minutes later, Torres did find the breakthrough, meeting Marcus Rashford's low cross first time to beat Lucas Chevalier.

Wojciech Szczesny tipped away Achraf Hakimi's left-sided free-kick before PSG found their equaliser. Nuno Mendes advanced down the left and then found Senny Mayulu, who lifted a calm finish over the goalkeeper.

Barcelona started the second half slowly but should have retaken the lead when Dani Olmo pounced on a loose clearance, only to see his effort charged down by Hakimi on the line shortly after the hour.

With time running out to find a winner, Lee Kang-in almost had an instant impact off the bench as he weaved his way through a crowded box before curling a low shot off Szczesny's far post.

But PSG's late pressure eventually paid off with a counter-attack as Hakimi's perfectly weighted cross teeing up the unmarked Ramos to fire in a 90th-minute winner.

Gareth Southgate to Man United truth confirmed amid Ruben Amorim sack pressure

Gareth Southgate was a leading contender to become Manchester United manager in 2024 and is being linked with moving to Old Trafford again amid the pressure on Ruben Amorim
Former England manager Gareth Southgate would turn down an offer from Manchester United if Ruben Amorim were to be dismissed. Back in March 2024, when Erik ten Hag's position was under scrutiny, Southgate was a top candidate for the role at Unite
However, Southgate remained committed to his duties with England, leading the team to the final of that summer's European Championships. Despite United's interest, Southgate declined all overtures.
Ten Hag managed to secure the FA Cup and was given a stay of ex*****on before lasting until October, where he was then replaced by Amorim following Ruud van Nistelrooy's short-term interim stint. Following England's impressive performance at the Euros in Germany, Southgate chose to step down and has since taken a hiatus from football.
He has not returned to the sport, instead focusing on public speaking and motivational work. Southgate has also landed a gig hosting a show for the BBC.
He has been spotted at numerous matches and other sporting events in recent months, and maintains close ties with several of his former colleagues at the FA.

Interestingly, Southgate is also good friends with Dan Ashworth, who had a long-term plan to bring Southgate to United during his tenure. Ashworth's stint as sporting director lasted just five months.

The current United manager, Amorim, is facing mounting pressure due to his team's disastrous start to the season. United have only managed two victories in seven matches across all competitions and were embarrassingly knocked out of the Carabao Cup by underdogs Grimsby Town.
But United chiefs maintain that Amorim continues to have their full backing and, at present, there are no plans to dismiss him. The club have also refuted allegations that they have been in direct contact with Southgate.

This weekend, they welcome high-flying Sunderland before the international break, followed by a daunting journey to fierce rivals Liverpool. Should the Portuguese fail to secure a win in either of these fixtures, Ratcliffe may be forced to contemplate a change, despite the fact that terminating Amorim and his coaching staff would cost United around £15m in compensation.

Victor Osimhen's Liverpool comment speaks volumes after Galatasaray stun Reds

Victor Osimhen spoke out after scoring the winning goal for Galatasaray against Liverpool in the Champions League, and the result makes it back-to-back losses for Arne Slot's men

Victor Osimhen has lauded Liverpool as 'one of the greatest clubs in the world' after helping fire Galatasaray to victory against the Reds on Tuesday evening. The Nigerian netted the winner in the first half, converting from the penalty spot early on to secure a memorable triumph for the Turkish heavyweights.

The result marked Galatasaray's first home Champions League victory in seven years, with the final whistle sparking jubilant scenes amongst Okan Buruk's players and their passionate supporters.

Osimhen had been a fitness concern ahead of kick-off, having only just returned from a month-long injury layoff as a late substitute on Friday evening.

However, after being restored to Galatasaray's starting line-up, the 26-year-old has called on his teammates to harness the victory as inspiration for the rest of their European campaign.

"I'm extremely happy about the performance we put in about one of the greatest clubs in the world," he told CBS Sports after the final whistle.

"For us, we never get carried away because this is a true test that Liverpool gave to us and I'm really happy about this win.

"It won't take away that they are one of the best [teams] in the last decade. For us, it's a really big motivation for us.

"They made us even better and we know we have a lot of things to work on. I'm really happy for this win and the team.

"We have quality in our team and we just need to be focused in many games in this competition.

"This is a huge step for us and we won't be carried away because we beat Liverpool. It's a big motivation."

Osimhen also confessed it was a 'huge moment' to net the decisive goal past Alisson Becker as he praised the Brazilian - who limped off with an injury in the second half - as amongst the finest keepers on the planet.

The Nigerian striker has now faced off against Alisson and Liverpool on three separate occasions, with Tuesday evening's triumph marking the second time he's emerged victorious.

Yet his winner against the Reds represented the first occasion he'd found the net against the six-time European champions, having previously watched Alisson thwart him from twelve yards during his Napoli days back in 2022.

Osimhen revealed his earlier miss had been weighing on his mind before stepping up to face the Liverpool goalkeeper once more as he finally laid his past disappointments to rest.

"You come face-to-face with one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Alisson," he said. "I have to be on high concentration for the place where I want to put the ball and I didn't change it.

"For me, it's a huge moment. I came against him when I played for my previous club and he heard my penalty so I needed to be highly concentrated to do better."

Before securing his permanent switch to Galatasaray from Napoli this summer, Osimhen had been touted for a potential move to Liverpool.

Nevertheless, prior to confronting the Turkish outfit, Arne Slot had dismissed claims that the Nigerian was ever genuinely on the Reds' transfer shortlist.
