A Poem by Hafiz (ca. 1320 - 1389)
FAITHFUL LOVER

The moon came to me last night
With a sweet question

She said,
"The sun has been my faithful lover
For millions of years
Whenever I offer my body to him
Brilliant light pours from his heart
Thousands then notice my happiness
And delight in pointing
Toward my beauty
Hafiz,
Is it true that our destiny
Is to turn into Light
Itself?"

And I replied,

Dear moon,
Now that your love is maturing
We need to sit together
Close like this more often
So I might instruct you
How to become
Who you
Are

Friedrich Weinreb: Leben in Freiheit:

Friedrich Weinreb:: Life in Freedom:
"It is said in the tradition that the whole world is on the way, plants, animals and people. That is why the plants depend on us taking them in, not only with our mouths, but also with our eyes, our feelings, our noses, our ears, whatever. In this way they are taken along with us on the path. And the same is true for animals. We have to take them in, not only with the mouth, but also with the feeling that they are there, that they exist and live. That is also a way of taking them in. They too are on the way."

Agnes Hidveghy: How should we deal with thoughts?

When it burns, it needs trained people who have rehearsed fire extinguishing to the point where every handling has been practiced. You cannot start practicing in an emergency.

Associative thinking, which has a firm grip on us, is built on countless connections of brain cells, which have been established over decades. You cannot change them from one day to the next. The connections between the brain cells are "crystallized”, they do not dissolve on command. If we simply superimpose «positive thinking» or «uplifting ideas» on the processes of associative thinking, they have no power.

Associative thinking not only makes us yaw and seduce, clog and rob our substance, it also nails and paralyzes our ability to act. This is expressed drastically in the pictorial language of the Isenheimer Altar, in that on the crucifixion scene the hands of the crucified are nailed to the horizontal beam - which stands for the mental world.

It is not about us «jumping out» of associative thinking in an emergency and turning to God! What is going on in our brains through habitual trajectories will overtake us - we will be taken back to prison to old thought forms.

Building new paths of thinking is a life's work. It is an incessant vigilance that it takes to avoid going along with unnecessary and negative thoughts. Seeing through the entanglement in habitual sequences of associative thinking and then being awake enough to interrupt it right from the beginning requires continuous mindfulness.

The path leads through becoming empty – going into silence on a regular basis - and the regular uptake of ideas left behind by those who know. This «reconstructs» the brain. Such a time of reconstruction is again and again a fragile unstable state, which we call a crisis. On such stretches of the way, knowing what is happening and/or being accompanied can help us to go through with trust.

When the air is saturated with anxiety viruses, it is hardly possible to start with working on thinking. Fear and resistance create only a vicious circle, not a healing substance, which can make us free and capable of full authority and can protect us from viruses.

To be free from the prison of associative thinking is only possible by not giving it our attention but drawing our attention away from it. As Karlfried Graf Dürckheim formulated it: «When the devil knocks on your door, do not resist. It is stronger that we are. Don’t run away, it is quicker than we. Don’t discuss with him, he is more intelligent than we. Offer him a place to sit down and let him sit drawing your attention away from him and turning consciously to something else.» The simplest way is: sensation of he body and conscious breathing.

Yes, here we really need the "two feet»: Trust and endurance - during a long, fairly normal time.

TALK ABOUT ASTROLOGY Agnes Hidveghy-Reijo Oksanen

Reijo: I have often wondered how you have developed your ability to sense the influences of the Zodiac in your life. It is known that Astrology started simply from watching the stars. In this sense you have gone back to the origin, but instead of “watching” the sky you are mysteriously, for me, in contact with the Zodiac.

Agnes: That is a very long story. It is inner Work. Inner Work begins with very practical observation of our inner state of being. At the same time, we must see what kind of influences are active at any time. Then we can begin to taste the different kinds of energies. An example: yes, this is a state of being related to the planet Neptune, or I am blocked, and my Saturn-Mars square is activated. I can then see that it is the energy in me, which is working this way or that way and not the energy in others or the outer world. The influences of the outer world and life do not cause my state of being, but they have the same taste, the same aspects. They can give an impulse that I am in this state of being, for example that I have an infection, or that I am exhausted because I did too much yesterday and today I have no energy to do anything. It is my constellation. If I live with the energy that has been given to me then I am really living my life.

Again, and again with my Mars-Saturn Square I experience the limitations that come with it. I cannot do what I would like to do, want to do, or what I think I should do. All my life I was cut back, like a rose bush, by the hand of a good gardener, who has no pity with the rose bush. I then learned to go with these energies and I can now sense the active forces working and I can perhaps have a look at where the planets are and notice how the state of being has the “same taste”, both in the body and the mind. However, it takes years and years to see this.

It is not so that this kind of Astrology can be learned in a weekend seminar, or even in a three-year course in Astrology, like you had. The background, what the energies are and how they work need to be studied. The cosmology and the working of the planets must be known. We cannot begin with looking at your chart and seeing where Mars and Uranus are and that therefore you are in the state of being you are in right now. We can only misuse this type of approach as an excuse for not understanding Astrology.

Reijo: That is the question: how can one learn to sense the influence of the planets in one’s life? What must one do to be able to understand what is happening?

Agnes: To see what my state of being is, is the start. For example, now I am calm, and I can take what comes without stress in my mind. Or I can feel unhappy and dissatisfied because something is not OK for me, and so on. Then the next impulse will bring me to an explosion. It is not only a question of the emotional states. The seeing, what is happening in me, must be objective. For that it is important that among other things I can sense my body. Two days ago, I sensed that my head was heavy. I thought that this is typical, because I ate too many sweets the day before. I looked deeper into it and found out that the sweets certainly did not help, but they were not the cause. Having seen this, I could start acting on the situation and prevent the infection going further and to develop into an illness.

The state of being I talk about is about the whole of me. For example, there is the state of being dissatisfied and having no idea and energy or creativity and being very unhappy about it. It is a darkness where I am closed into, but I know this is the emptiness, out of which the next day there comes an idea and new energy and I can have possibly a creative day. This helps me from doing anything about the “bad” state.

I cannot emphasize enough that we must learn that we get the energy every moment for something. If we do not see what the energy is for then we misuse it. When I am tired then I get the energy for sleep or to have a rest. When I go against it I get more and more exhausted and I cannot get anywhere, and my body and soul cannot recover.

An extreme case in this type of situation is that we get the energy to live, but we also get the energy to die when it is time. Dying for me is every moment when the Saturn-Mars Square, one of the strongest and one of the “worst” aspects one can have in a chart, is active, then it is the time to die. When I have learned that this is the time to die then I do not try to do something against this energy. I take it in a calm way, do the washing up, cleaning or some other simple work; I do not attempt to do some creative work simply because it does not work. Everything goes wrong if I try. There is a barrier, which has been given to me for growing in humility, experiencing the human limitations. It is given to me to understand others and to accept that I am limited. Some people have an instinctive ability to use what they get, but with a strong self-will we always go against the energies; they are often not given to what we think they are.

To learn to work like this is a work of a lifetime. This work is to become sensitive to our state of being and to give up our imagination of how things should be; to see what there is. For example, due to the illness I had from when I was ten, I was continuously exhausted. I thought always that I must do more, but that I am lazy. I simply did not realize that I was tired! I did not call it tiredness; I called it laziness. Nobody told me to look at it again and find out. We all have this same type of problem: we cannot see and respect our state of being; we simply cannot see. The first and the ongoing, continuously most important thing is to stop and to see what my state of being is. When we can see the state then we can also use the energies given to us.

Agnes: I can only speak from my own experience: when I get up early in the morning, let us say at four and write two hours and at ten I suddenly feel that I should have done so many other things, but it seems difficult for the time being. It is still difficult to see: oh, I am tired and at ten o’clock I need a nap. If I accept it, then half an hour later, after a nap, I am OK, and everything seems to be easy to accomplish. Of course, there are also people who will have to deal with laziness and not tiredness; it depends on the constellations in the birth chart… They also must find out how to finish the octave, against which one can always find some reasons why it should not be done.

Things do not function without self-knowledge and the ability to see as a witness. I do not want to use the word “observe” as it can be misunderstood. When I want to observe I do not see. It is about seeing, without comments, without judgement. That is the beginning and the end. In between there are two lines to work with. One is cosmology, to understand the nature of cosmic laws, how the cosmos is functioning. A human being is a whole cosmos. When we learn the way the cosmic energies work and understand what it is all about then we can also understand that something that is seemingly difficult and even negative connotations has always a very positive and important message, there is teaching or education in it (I prefer the word “education” in this sense.) This is what many of those people who have had a heavy illness, accident or heavy problems in life also say: they are being educated. What was difficult, was exactly what gave them such an insight or knowledge that they would not have received if life would have been easy.

We are the process of the cosmic structures; it is not something we get, or something that happens to us, we are the process of cosmic structures enfolding.

Reijo: The circling of the planets is taking place in the outer world and there is an analogy to what is happening in me.

Agnes: The circling of the planets is not in me; it is not because the Mars is here, and the Moon is in some other place. I am this circling. With the help of the analogy I can see what is happening in me or rather, to get it confirmed.

Reijo: You know my experience under anaesthetics and how I experienced going through this kind of process, not a tunnel, as is often referred to, but a vast space where I am supporting the whole cosmos while circling; it is as if the cosmos is the whole of me, but it needs my strong effort to go on. It is also interesting that “I” go around in this cosmos at different speeds at different points, or rather that there are different speeds in my efforts. This is how I can imagine the planets to move around.

Agnes: Yes! Now you are talking about cosmology. The same pattern in the atom, in human being, solar system in the galaxy and in a cell; this is what takes place and in this strange way you have experienced it.

Reijo: On the other hand, this is the only direct experience I have of this movement in me.

Agnes: This is because you do not see yourself continuously. Every mood in us comes, grows and fades and it will happen again and again and again. This is the movement of the Moon. It takes one aspect from the Sun, brings it to full manifestation, like the full Moon and then back again to the Sun.

Reijo: We were talking about it one day of how it would be possible to understand the influence of the Moon and to see the change that takes place due to the changes of the position of the Moon in the sky. I remember that you pointed out that this is perhaps the easiest and best way to start seeing what is happening in us in relation to the planetary world and the lights. In other words, we can see the changes in our moods, which are very much connected with the Moon.

Agnes: Maybe we realize that when this mood gets some nourishment from the outside, then for example we say, “I am angry because this or that happens”. In the mood there is the readiness to become angry. This is what we need to see: that this readiness is continuously changing; in maximum two hours there is a completely different mood in us.

This belongs to life, it is the ever-changing constellation; we have never the same constellation twice, every moment and constellation is new and different from all others. That is life; the process of life, and we are this process of life. What we do with it is another question. Can we extract the quintessence from it or are we simply swept away in this stream and go under?

Quintessence is the nourishment for our essence; the food we get come from the four elements: earth, water, air and fire. All the twelve signs in the Zodiac have their own elements and on the background for each planet and the two lights are their own specific element. These elements are the basic substances of life. The elements relating to us are: body – earth, emotions – water, mental life – air, self-will – fire. We need to learn to obey.

Reijo: What is the role of light in Astrology?

Agnes: It is consciousness and represented in all its aspects by the Sun. We really need to know the astronomical structure to understand what Sun is and what it represents. We need to study, and study needs the energy of attention. If we do not give enough attention to a subject, we cannot learn to understand it. It all needs to be rediscovered by us personally!

It is very sad that in Astrology we read and hear how the Sun and the Moon are considered often to be planets. Of course, they are not planets. With this definition the understanding begins to be totally misled. If we do not see the hierarchic structure in Astrology we remain at a level where we just interpret things with the help of some theories. Then we have no idea of how the constellations can help us to know ourselves. It is possible to see situations more consciously and not go against forces we cannot overcome.

For example: difficult tasks like to climb a mountain gives us a critical situation – we need all our attention and there are risks. It needs an enormous effort. We can only make these efforts when we have a difficult constellation. If all is smooth, why would I make any efforts at all?

It looks like I am telling the contrary to what I was saying in the beginning. If I am not aware of the danger, then I do not prepare myself in the right way and I go forth with illusions to the big task and it will not function. I must know what my state of being is. When my body is not in a good state then I cannot climb a mountain. I must know, to know the difficulties, all the circumstances to be able to face the danger and the difficulties. Then I can decide: either I take it, or I do not take it.

I have learned to take some difficulties that look like a wall I could never climb over, which stops me. I do what is possible right now in the place where I am and then I do not try to go further than the wall or against the wall. This is only made possible when I transform the feeling that I am facing an impossible task. I do what is possible within the limitations. I do it 100% and as well as I can.

The Cosmic Task of Being Born as Man or as Woman (Part 3) 08/31/2009

Lecture in Helsinki 27th of June 2009 Part Three

After a breathing exercise a possibility for questions.

Question: I would like to ask about what you write at the end of the brochure: what is faithfulness? Do you mean the faithfulness of the heart?

Agi: I thought this question would come. Faithfulness, as we understand it, is a question invented by men. A man has to learn to be committed, because otherwise he escapes all the time when challenges arise and he can just “go away”. He has to learn to be committed. That is the realization of eternity retransformed down in time. Eternity becomes endlessness and in its positive aspect it is the commitment; go for the fulfillment of a task - to the end of its time.

Women have to learn to be faithfull to the present moment. Every moment is new and we have to learn to be alert to the present. Man does not understand this in woman and we can not expect him to understand it. This does not mean that a woman should follow every mood; we have to learn to distinguish between the changing moods and the needs and possibilities of the present moment. This is the faithfulness to the female aspect of unity: the ever new. The realization of the uniqueness of the living, virginal moment of creation, right now.

In fact this is a good example of how different men and women are. A strong woman rooted in her female origin knows and feels this clearly and lives accordingly - independently if she is understood or not.

Question: are you faithful when you live with someone and your heart is with someone else?

Agi: Nobody can say if you are; it is ones individual responsibility. What is right for one is wrong for another. What was right yesterday is wrong today. This is what I mean to be faithful to the present moment, faithful to one´s heart. To take responsibility for what is in your heart and listening to it is what it entails. (There is a beautiful movie about this theme: “The Bridges of Madison County”, directed by Clint Eastwood, with Meryl Streep)

The weakness of women is that they are waiting for the man to say: yes, you are right. But this is the way of a little girl in us waiting for dad to accept the little girl in us. Women are alone with this responsibility. When they can become responsible then they are getting very strong. A man can never be as strong as a woman. On the other hand a woman can never be as sensitive as a man. The problem with the sensitivity of men is that their sensitivity is directed entirely to defending themselves, their identity defined by the structures of the past. The man has to turn this sensitivity towards his partner and children, toward the world.

However, the woman should not expect to be understood by a man. I was once attending a lecture by professor Leboyer (Ref. 2), who helped women to become aware of many things in connection with childbirth.

In the frame of an international congress there was a small group gathered in a room with professor Leboyer. A young man expressed his thanks for the method of Leboyer as the birth of his first child was prepared in accordance with his method and he himself had been there at the event of the birth. He said that after this he understands his wife much better.

The professor, who is a short tiny man, with an incredible presence, attacked like a hawk the poor man and said: “Young man! You are a man. You will never have the possibility to understand a woman!”

I can say the same for women; we are different from man. Women do not know what it feels to be a man. Reijo says sometimes: “it is difficult to be me”. We can only meet when we have respect of each other. Do not think that this is necessarily based on understanding. It is very important that we do not start to compare man to woman. They live in different inner worlds, with different psychic structures and different functions.

Question: I do not quite get your definition of the “soft man” who looses the touch with heaven. What does it really mean?

Agi: When a man begins to see himself from the point of view of the woman then he looses his anchor to heaven. There is a book in German called “Männer lassen lieben. Die Sucht nach der Frau“ written by Wilfried Wieck. The subject of the book is that men want to be loved and let women love them, but they themselves are not capable of loving; they are not active in their love. The book is a confession of the lack of the Godlike quality in man, who has lost the connection towards heaven.

In Switzerland most of the fathers are very active in the family. That is necessary in a way, but the result is that the child has two mothers and no father. The role of the father is different from the mother's role. These types of men rarely understand what the role of the father is.

Question: What is the role of the father?

Agi: The mother understands the child at all times. She protects the child whatever happens. The father knows what has to be done so that the child can grow up and become independent. I will give an example of what I saw one day in winter with a family of father, mother and a small child. The child was standing on skis perhaps for the first time in his life. He tried to take one movement with the skis, but fell down. The mother helped him up and the child kept falling and the mother picking him up perhaps as many as ten times. When he again fell down, the father took the mother away from the child; he should learn to get up himself.

The child should not expect the father to be nice to him in this kind of situation. Perhaps at the age of 50 or 60 the child can understand what the father has been able to do for him. Most men are not aware of the necessity of this role and not strong enough for it - and women do not like the way a real father acts. The way women treat a son will never make a man of him. A mother can do whatever she wants, but she can not make a ”man” of his son. He needs both of the parents.

Like we have our father in heaven and our mother earth. Both women and men have to become aware of their own role. One role of a man is to be a father and for a woman to be a mother.

Question: How about a daughter who has no father?

Agi: For a girl the mother is more important. Through her mother is she growing into the role of a woman.

Question: What happens if woman looses the touch with the earth - what happens then to the roles?

Agi: In this situation woman is in the role of the man with knowledge, intellect etc. She sees mainly the shortcomings of others and is therefore in difficulties in the relationship with man. She has lost the contact to earth, to the living reality.

There is a beautiful film called “Ladyhawke” (a DVD can be bought from the Amazon shops in the U.S. and U.K. http://www.gurdjieff-internet.com/book_details.php>authID=269&BID=665&lang=English). The film is based on a 700 years old fairytale about man and woman, a beautiful story, full of sense. During the day the woman is charmed into a hawk, having lost her touch with the earth, and during the night the man is charmed into a wolf, having lost the contact with heaven. This is why they can not come in touch with each other. The story is about how they break the spell. (The film was launched in 1985. The director Richard Donner is well known of his films like Superman and the series of four films called Lethal Weapon with Mel Gibson.) I often show this film in my seminars.

Question: Should all women be a Spirit of the House at home taking care of the children and making food then I am in trouble, because I do not like peeling potatoes, it takes me two hours every day.

Agi: What from does it take the time? We would like to save time and we loose life with it. (See the genius book written by Michael Ende called Momo.)

Today there is a great change in the role of the woman. It is a cosmic change relating to what I was talking about in the beginning. During the age of Pisces over the past 2000 years the female had the opposite sign of the Pisces, the Virgo. Virgo is the servant; the sign has at its basis the principle and the energy of serving, on every level. In this way the Mother of God, Virgin Mary, gave birth to “God's Son” to serve the purpose of a cosmic human task.

The opposite energy of the new Age of Aquarius is Leo. According to this energy women are getting more and more power. This is not the serving Virgo that is being nourished by the cosmic energy of the past. The new cosmic energy supports the aspect of being that could be called the „Queen of the Heaven” in every woman. This applies on every level and this Queen of Heaven feeling is being felt and manifested. The future is in the hands of women and mankind depends on the maturity of them. Power alone can be very dangerous without understanding. The task is; how can women become queens when the pattern they inherited is the pattern of the little servant maid?

At lower levels of consciousness this is a problem in the whole world. If the power of women is not nourished at the same time with knowledge and love the situation becomes dangerous. In the past men pushed women down and now we have the danger that women push men down. We are so far now that we do not even need men to get children. Why should woman take the difficulties with a male partner when there is no more need for it? It is a great challenge for women to get more power.

Question: I have something that relates to both of these questions. If the problem is that men are becoming feminine and see the world through the feminine principle then I feel that a bigger problem is that women are becoming too male. Now for example the children are brought up in a way that a boy or a girl can do anything and the woman is no more protecting and prohibiting the child. Is this also your view that the women are seeing the world more through the eyes of man?

Agi: Yes. The orientation of women is also in the depth of the psyche male. Through the more female manifestations in man women are dragged more in a male role. It is an interaction in this process, which works in both directions.

It does not really matter that the mother is more father like and the father is more like the mother. The roles can be the other way round. That is better for a child than to have two mothers or two fathers.

Question: Is it not a problem that there are two fathers?

Agi: The problem is that today according to the collective understanding man and woman are the same, they can do the same things and function in the same way. We do not see the differences between the two. The “children of the Age of Aquarius” are angel like; without sense for the sexes, this is a result of the new cosmic energy.

For example in sports activities women act these days as if they never have heard of their periods and do not consider them. The time - and through it and the way of life - of the male of the species is continuous, linear. The time of the female is cyclic. If woman is not aware of it and do not understand the sense of it then woman loose their feminine orientation. : The understanding, that life itself is cyclic, that the rhythm of life gives the only possibility for renewal.

With these impulses I wanted to show, that our daily life problems in the relationship have their origin in both sides of Unity. The patterns are laid down on an universal dimension and our nature entails those patterns on the human level. Our personal themes in life are in their roots universal. If we are able to understand this, we can see the challenge in them and we do not need to let them become dramatic problems or tragedies.

I wish you can all find your male and female identity; the world needs it. The identity, which is rooted in God's nature. We are creating a new world, and this needs a clear understanding. It will become a tradition in which next generations will be born into.

There are many questions that remain open. I hope anyway, you go out into life with more questions than you came in with!

Questions are also welcome by email when you get them. This lecture is available in mp3 format in English with its Finnish translation. It can be ordered by email.

Dr. Frederick Leboyer was the first physician to challenge society's deeply held beliefs about awareness in the newborn. His pioneering works on birthing, including “Birth Without Violence”, have forever revolutionized the course of prenatal care and the way babies are introduced to the world. He also pioneered introducing infant massage to the Western world.
