“What Women Experience, What Systems Miss”

Women's health began to be recognized as a distinct area of study separate from men's research in the late 1980s and early 1990s, culminating in the 1993 NIH Revitalization Act, which legally mandated the inclusion of women in clinical research.
Before this period, medical research, diagnostics, and treatments were largely based on male subjects, with the assumption that results could be applied to women.
