New research published by ISfTeH member Dr. Motti Haimi:

Usage in Israel in Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic: Retrospective Cohort Study of Intersectional Sociodemographic Patterns and Implications

Telehealth has become a transformative health care delivery approach post the COVID-19 pandemic. Although telehealth improves health care access and reduces disparities, mounting evidence suggests usage patterns may exacerbate pre-existing health care inequities. Understanding these patterns across diverse populations is crucial for equitable digital health implementation.

Background: Telehealth has emerged as a transformative approach to healthcare delivery, particularly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Although telehealth has been shown to improve access to healthcare services and reduce healthcare disparities, there is mounting evidence that telehealth consump...

[Webinar] Decolonial Information Technologies: Challenges for Design from Intersectional and Feminist Perspectives in Human-Algorithm Interaction ( )

This webinar, hosted by the ISfTeH Working Group on Women (WoW) and ISfTeH Nurses and Midwives Working Group, explores the intersection of Feminist Human-Computer Interaction ( ), Design Justice, Intersectionality, and Decoloniality as critical frameworks for analyzing power dynamics embedded in information technologies.

These approaches, rooted in activist scholarship, challenge dominant design paradigms by exposing how technological artifacts often reproduce systemic inequalities—particularly in marginalized communities. Design Justice, for example, offers tools to identify and resist biases, racism, and structural violence in digital systems, while Feminist HCI advocates for the inclusion of feminist values in the design and development of interactive technologies.

Decoloniality emerges as a vital methodological stance, questioning Eurocentric knowledge structures and advocating for pluralistic, community-centered approaches to technology and health.

The speakers argue that reimagining digital health tools through these critical frameworks is essential for advancing justice-oriented public health interventions that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and ethically grounded.

Speakers:
Dr. Renata Frade, Technologies of Communication PhD, University of Aveiro & University of Porto (Portugal); Artificial Intelligence Researcher, University of São Paulo (Brazil); Gartner and IEEE keynote speaker; Website Editor, Henry Jenkins (Pop Junctions), University of Southern California (USA)
Dr. Elen Nas, Post Doc, Research Group "Political Economy of Culture and Communication", Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa, Ministry of Culture (Brazil)
