Highly Cited Researchers – Two of our researchers at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) and Berner Institut für Hausarztmedizin (BIHAM), Georgia Salanti and Orestis Efthimiou, have been recognised by Clarivate Analytics as «Highly Cited Researchers», an honour awarded to scientists whose publications rank among the top 1 % by citations in their field. Grippenet.ch is a participatory surveillance system that monitors influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) in Switzerland to improve the understanding of infection transmission dynamics and to provide insights into the symptoms they cause. It was launched and implemented in Switzerland in 2016, and since 2025, it has been led by researchers from the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern.

ISPM will host a new SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellow – Hicham Achebak, a postdoctoral researcher at the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), has been awarded the highly competitive SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowship (SPF) on his project TEMPO (Temperature Exposure During Pregnancy and Birth Outcomes in Europe). Hicham will join ISPM in January 2026 to lead this 2-year project at the Climate Epidemiology and Public Health research group.
