serves as a reminder that this small animal can have a huge impact on people’s lives.

Celina’s neighborhood in Boane District, Mozambique, had already been impacted by flooding, but the situation intensified with the arrival of Cyclone Freddy, the longest lasting tropical cyclone in recorded history.

In the immediate aftermath, investments by The Global Fund, the Gates Foundation and Goodbye Malaria, were used to provide flood relief equipment, food, and mosquito nets to displacement centers.

Recent cuts in funding could result in 15 million additional cases and over 100,000 deaths, according to expert estimates.

In today's globalised world, the weakening of the global health architecture inevitably affects .

Investments in global health are needed - not just as an act of solidarity, but also as a strategic investment in Switzerland's resilience, prosperity, and security.

Congrats to for becoming the first malaria-free country in the Amazon region! 🎉

This historic milestone is the result of implementing a highly responsive and inclusive control programme with dedication over many decades.

However, the work is not finished: maintaining malaria-free status requires ongoing surveillance in collaboration with neighbouring countries.

Congratulations to Suriname!

Suriname has officially been certified malaria-free by the World Health Organization (WHO) — the first country in the Amazon region to achieve this milestone.

This achievement is a powerful reminder of what is possible with strong disease surveillance, cross-border collaboration, and sustained commitment to protecting vulnerable communities.

A major step forward in the global fight to

Impressions from our general assembly and joint workshop 📸

Yesterday, our members met in Bern for this year’s . Manuel Hetzel, President of the Swiss Malaria Group, announced the departure of Anita Streule, the Executive Secretary. We wish her all the best!

In a joint workshop with the Swiss Alliance against Neglected Tropical Diseases SANTD, we explored potential collaborations and ways to join forces to increase visibility for our respective causes.

We'd like to thank all participants for a lively exchange and look forward to further discussions.

and neglected tropical diseases ( ) continue to affect over a billion people, mostly the world’s poorest. But progress is possible.

Together with the Swiss Alliance against Neglected Tropical Diseases SANTD), we invited Swiss parliamentarians on a study tour, visiting two of our member organizations and showcasing Switzerland’s critical role in the global fight against malaria and NTDs.

Parliamentarians saw firsthand how Swiss based research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, NGOs and public and private organisations are creating tangible impact— from diagnostics and medicines to capacity building in partner countries.

Switzerland is not only a hub of expertise but also a driver of progress and equity in health worldwide.

save lives in the long run.

Our newest highlights a 22-year study in Tanzania, through which the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) and partners showed that children who sleep under bed nets at an early age are more likely to survive into adulthood.

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, followed more than 6,700 children between 1998 and 2003, and tracked them again in 2019 to find out what happened to them.

Since the arrival of several hundreds of thousands displaced people from Myanmar in 2017, the overcrowded camps in Cox’s Bazar in the South of have faced severe challenges in maternal and child healthcare.

in Mozambique is high, partly due to the large number of malaria-related deaths.

A new approach introduced by SMG member SolidarMed at the reception of paediatric emergency units helps to save lives. Such as the life of Crisaldo, a young boy who survived thanks to the approach.
