On Wednesday, we hosted the Export Forum of the Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CLCI) at our premises in Biel for the first time.

More than fifty representatives from French-speaking Switzerland’s industry gathered at MPS yesterday afternoon. The program included a tour of our production, assembly, and quality control departments. Participants were able to see first-hand the level of precision and quality we provide to our customers.

Afterwards, Gael Poget from MSC presented global export trends and highlighted Switzerland’s important role in maritime trade.

A successful and highly enriching first edition!

Mercredi, nous avons pour la première fois organisé le Forum Export des Chambres Latines du Commerce et d'Industrie (CLCI) dans nos locaux de Bienne.

Plus d'une cinquantaine de représentants de l'industrie romande se sont retrouvés chez MPS hier après-midi. Au programme, une visite de nos départements production, assemblage et contrôle qualité. Les participants ont pu se rendre compte du niveau de précision et de qualité que nous offrons à nos clients.

Par la suite, Gaël Poget de MSC a présenté les tendances globales en matière d'exportation et a souligné le rôle important de la Suisse dans le commerce maritime.

Half a million lives improved thanks to MPS 💙

For many years, one of our flagship products has been the dosing unit of a peristaltic pump. It is composed of five miniature grade 5 titanium bearings and a grade 1 and 2 titanium chassis.

The pump is implanted in the intrathecal space of the patient. It delivers a constant flow of medication directly into the blood of the patient and ensures optimal pain control.

More than 500'000 of these dosing units have been assembled in our ISO 7 clean room. Which means that more than half a million people across the globe live a better life thanks to MPS.

This is exactly the kind of project that inspires us!

Un demi-million de vies améliorées grâce à MPS 💙

Depuis de longues années, un de nos produits phares est le doseur d'une pompe péristaltique. Il est composé de cinq roulements miniatures en titane grade 5 et d'un chassis en titane grades 1 et 2.

La pompe est implantée dans l'espace intrathécal du patient. Elle délivre un flux constant de médicament directement dans le sang et permet un contrôle optimal de la douleur.

Plus de 500'000 de ces doseurs ont déjà été assemblés dans notre salle blanche ISO 7. Plus d'un demi-million de personnes dans le monde entier vivent donc une meilleure vie grâce à MPS.

C'est ce genre de projets qui nous font vibrer !

Welcome to physics class 🔭🪐

Since the Big Bang, our universe has been expanding at varying rates. Thanks to our fiber positioners, we can measure exactly how fast this is happening.

Our fiber positioners are used in large-scale space surveys around the world. Placed by the thousands on the focal plane of a telescope, they point at the sky.

Each positioner captures photons – particles of light – from a little corner of space and feeds that data into a centralized system. With the aggregated data, scientists analyze how celestial objects move away from each other, which gives us a good idea of the speed of expansion of the universe.

Petite leçon de physique 🔭🪐

Depuis le Big Bang, notre univers est en pleine expansion. La vitesse d'expansion variant, c'est là qu'entrent en jeu nos positionneurs de fibre optique.

Utilisés dans de grandes études de l'univers aux quatre coins du globe, nos positionneurs sont placés par milliers sur la plaque focale de grands télescopes et pointent vers le ciel.

Chaque positionneur capte les photons, donc les particules de lumière, venant d'un petit coin de l'espace et transmet ces données à un système centralisé. Des scientifiques utilisent alors ces données agrégées pour étudier comment les corps célestes bougent les uns par rapport aux autres, nous donnant ainsi une bonne idée de la vitesse d'expansion de l'univers.

SWISS CHAMPIONS! 🤩🏆

The U21 team of EHC Biel-Bienne won the title against the GCK Lions yesterday in game 5 of the playoff final! As a gold sponsor of the team, we couldn't be prouder of this achievement.

Throughout the season, this young team has demonstrated that it belongs to the best in the country, and this title is the proof. We're very happy to contribute to one of the best junior movements in Switzerland and look forward to seeing how these players evolve in the coming years.

Les M21 du HC Bienne ont été sacrés champions suisses hier en battant les GCK Lions au match 5 de la finale des playoffs ! En tant que sponsor or de l'équipe, nous sommes extrêmement fiers de cette performance.

Tout au long de la saison, cette jeune équipe a démontré qu'elle appartient aux meilleures du pays, et ce titre en est la preuve. Nous sommes très heureux de contribuer à l'un des meilleurs mouvements juniors de Suisse et nous réjouissons de voir comment ces joueurs évolueront ces prochaines années.

MPS parts are heading straight towards the sun! ☀️

The Solar Orbiter spacecraft was launched on February 10, 2020. Since then, it has traveled hundreds of millions of kilometers and is following an elliptical orbit around the center of our solar system. Every six months, Solar Orbiter now comes within just 42 million kilometers of the Sun. That’s closer than Mercury!

Its nominal science phase began in late 2021. Since then, Solar Orbiter has led to major discoveries about solar winds and micro-eruptions. Additionally, the probe has captured the first close-up images of the polar regions.

But what makes Solar Orbiter unique is its ability to “synchronize” with the Sun’s rotation as it approaches. This allows it to observe the same region for several days and thus document the evolution of a specific phenomenon.

For MPS, this project goes beyond space exploration. We contributed to its success by developing special ball screws for one of the onboard measurement instruments. These components were optimized to operate in space: in zero gravity, in a vacuum, and under extreme thermal conditions.

Des pièces de MPS foncent droit vers le soleil ! ☀️

La sonde Solar Orbiter a été lancée le 10 février 2020. Depuis, elle a parcouru des centaines de millions de kilomètres et suit une trajectoire d'orbite elliptique autour du centre de notre système solaire. Solar Orbiter s'approche désormais tous les six mois à seulement 42 millions de kilomètres du soleil. C'est plus près que Mercure !

Sa phase scientifique nominale a débuté fin 2021. Depuis, Solar Orbiter a permis d'importantes découvertes sur les vents solaires et les micro-éruptions. De plus la sonde a réalisé les premiers clichés en gros plan des régions polaires.

Mais ce qui rend Solar Orbiter unique, c'est sa capacité à se "synchroniser" à la rotation du soleil lorsqu'elle s'en approche. Cela lui permet d'observer la même région pendant plusieurs jours et donc de documenter l'évolution d'un phénomène précis.

Pour MPS, ce projet va au-delà de l'exploration spatiale. Nous avons contribué à sa réalisation en développant des vis à billes spéciales pour l'un des instruments de mesure embarqués. Ces composants ont été optimisés pour fonctionner dans l'espace : sans gravité, sans atmosphère, et dans des conditions thermiques extrêmes.

What makes QuickSwitch so innovative?

At AAOS 2026, we introduced QuickSwitch, our new intramedullary reamer system. We were thrilled by the initial response, so it's time to highlight the real advantage it brings to the (operating) table.

The innovation is simple to understand: in IM reaming, the real bottleneck is often exchanging the reamer head, not the reaming itself.

With QuickSwitch, that step was rethought.

A proprietary guidewire and a slotted reamer head allow the surgeon to change sizes without removing the shaft or fully disconnecting the motor. This is an enormous time saver and enhances the efficiency of the procedure.

A l'AAOS 2026, nous avons présenté le QuickSwitch, notre nouvel alésoir intramédullaire, et les premiers retours étaient très positifs. Il est désormais temps de souligner le vrai avantage que cette nouvauté apporte.

L'innovation est simple : De nos jours, l'alésage intramédullaire souffre d'un problème d'efficacité. Mais ce n'est pas la tâche en elle-même qui pose problème, mais le changement de tête d'alésage.

C'est là qu'intervient le QuickSwitch.

Grâce à un guide propriétaire et une tête d'alésage à fente, le chirurgien peut changer de taille sans retirer la tige ni déconnecter complètement le moteur. Cela permet un gain de temps considérable et améliore l'efficacité de la procédure.

La différence entre ce nouveau système QuickSwitch et un alésoir intramédullaire standard est bien visible dans la vidéo.

💥 QuickSwitch IM Reamer

Yesterday, we introduced a brand-new product to our trauma line-up: the QuickSwitch Intramedullary Reamer.

Building upon our successful flexible IM reamer, it features a completely redesigned reamer head with a slot. The reamer guide has a narrower section that allows to quickly exchange the reamer head without pulling out the entire shaft.

This new system brings many advantages to surgeons, notably a faster and simpler reamer head exchange leading a more efficient procedure.

The feedback from early testers is very promising, and reactions after our presentation yesterday confirmed the potential of the product.

Hier, nous avons présenté un tout nouveau produit dans notre gamme de produits pour traumatologie : l'alésoir intramédullaire QuickSwitch.

S'appuyant sur le succès de notre alésoir intramédullaire flexible, il est doté d'une tête d'alésage entièrement repensée autour d'une fente. Le guide de l'alésoir présente une section plus étroite qui permet de remplacer rapidement la tête de l'alésoir sans retirer toute la tige.

Ce nouveau système offre de nombreux avantages aux chirurgiens, notamment un remplacement plus rapide et plus simple de la tête de l'alésoir, ce qui rend la procédure plus efficace.

Les premiers retours des testeurs sont très prometteurs et les réactions après notre présentation d'hier ont confirmé le potentiel de cette nouveauté.

AAOS 2026 has started!

We're back at the largest orthopedics trade show in the world, and this week is going to be a big one!

Tomorrow, we will be introducing a brand new product that has the potential to make trauma surgery faster, cleaner and more efficient. We will take the stage at the Innovation Theater (booth #702, hall B2) at 11:00 am on Wednesday to unveil all the details. Be sure to join us!

Ball screw, ball screw... What even is a ball screw? 🤔

We talk a lot about our ball screws and how they enable smoother motion than other friction-based solutions. But how exactly does a ball screw work?

A ball screw is made of a threaded shaft, balls, and a nut. Unlike a lead screw where the nut slides directly on the thread, a ball screw utilizes the balls as a rolling intermediate. As the shaft rotates, the balls are recirculated through the nut.

This creates a system where there is very low friction, leading to smoother and more precise motion while ensuring a long lifetime.

Vis à billes, vis à billes... C'est quoi une vis à billes en fait ? 🤔

Nous parlons beaucoup de nos vis à billes et du fait qu'elles permettent un mouvement plus doux que d'autres solutions qui ont recourt à la friction. Mais comment est-ce qu'une vis à billes fonctionne exactement ?

Une vis à billes est composée d'un axe avec un filetage, de billes et d'un écrou. Contairement à une vis-écrou (lead screw) où l'écrou est en contact direct avec l'axe, une vis à billes utilise les billes comme intermédiaire de roulement. De plus, quand la vis tourne, ces billes sont recirculées au sein de l'écrou.

C'est ainsi qu'on obtient un système à très faible friction qui permet un mouvement plus doux et plus précis tout en garantissant une durée de vie supérieure.
